Mobil 1 ESP 5w30…….use it in everything?

Hi everyone,
As the tile indicates, is Mobil 1 ESP 5w30 basically the best universal oil assuming you need 5w30? I was recently in WalMart and the ESP is $27.00 for five quarts. With the price point in line with some of the other “big players” in the game, it would seem crazy to use anything else, right?
I realize that the ESP is slightly thicker and it might have a minuscule impact on one’s gas mileage, but that seems to be a very small price to pay for much much better engine protection.
Am I missing anything here? Are there any downsides to using the ESP in everything that calls for a 5w30? Could it be “too thick” for some cars? Are there any cars that you can think of that have issues with the ESP?
I’m trying to think of any negatives and I can’t seem to find any. Also it’s worth noting that I am not looking for any type of extended service life from the oil. I tend to change oil early.
And I am correct in that it does offer better or the best engine protection, right?

Absolutely a fantastic oil. Personally I prefer the ESP 0w30 version.

Pretty much a universal oil. Sufficient HT/HS, demanding approvals, universal winter rating, lower SAPS and under $28 at the ubiquitous Walmarts.

Mobil 1 ESP is likely what I would be running if Valvoline Restore and Protect didn’t exist.

If I wasn't so satisfied with Mobil 1 Euro FS 0w-40, I would be using Mobil 1 ESP 0w30. Actually, I almost made the change at my last OCI's.

I use the 0w30 in both of my vehicles, one of which specs 0w-20, and the other which specs 5w30. Both turbos. Both seem to “like” it.

Yes. High virgin oxidation indicates esters.

Hard to beat ESP as a one-stop shop kinda oil.

While I cannot say which oil you should use, it's Mobil 1 ESP 0w30 for my cars. I like the HTHS of 3.5 and maybe a little esters. I don't extend oil changes on my cars and I know I can trust the Mobil 1 0W30 will be fine till I change again.

Don't anyone use 10w30 ? That's what i am going to run in my 11 Tahoe. We will see how it goes.

For what reason? Especially compared to ESP in a 30-grade it will have an inferior base stock and no real guaranteed performance. If you get it cheap, maybe. But for me $28 is hard to ignore.

Once I run out of my existing stash, I am planning on using the ESP in our DI which is mainly on Mobil 1 Extended Performance 10w30 or whatever other Euro oil on sale (lately Castrol). The book and oil cap says 5W-20. Overall I am a M1 user but wonder off sometimes due to sale prices.

Thinking the ESP may even help IVD but the jury may be out on that one. Is there any Euro approval which has IVD related testing?

Pretty crazy how the brain can (needlessly) second-guess itself when there isn't a constant marketing barrage aimed at your eyeballs, isn't it? (talking about the ESP line....which I've never seen any advertising for aside from rebates at the chain auto parts stores and Walmart cash this summer---or maybe I just wasn't paying attention, lol)

Same, seems like any time something gets a good reputation its pretty often penny pinched by bean counters to increase margins ever so slightly more.

My guess is if they can they will ultimately, and while I get if it meets the spec why does it matter but there is always the argument of best product at a price point.

I put Mobil 1 ESP 5w30 in my 2 BMWs today. One gasser, one diesel. LL-04 for the win!

All advertisements I see is on the bitog.

Hardly on sale at Wal-Mart or any other store I've gone to. Except one time it was $24 at Walmart for a very short time.

but you know, I look at the approvals and it has bunch of tough approvals and for $24 or $27 ain't too bad.

Other things I like is narrower spread than 0W-40. And relatively speaking, has higher HTHS and lower Noack than typical 30 grade.
