Good lord! These things are laying down 570+ hp dead stock on chassis dynoes. So 638 hp rating from the factory is conservative.

Given that a dead stock C6 ZO6 has gone 10.70 at over 130 mph in the 1/4, I bet someone will get a ZR1 into the low 10s factory stock. I don't know of any other mass produced car that can do that.

nice!

And I bet it could still return 28-30 MPG if driven gently and conservatively.

The 15% figure is very rough. Given the new testing methods done by the SAE to measure HP, I'd say the 638HP (NET, flywheel) is probably very close to 570RWHP.

Conservative was the '03 Cobra. 390HP and then dyno'ing 390RWHP.....

The ZR1 is definitely a weapon!!! Very impressive car.

That's the most amazing thing about all the new Vettes. They just dominate, and can still get well over 20 mpg.

On the Vette forum, the few that have been dynoed are all around 570 hp, but one dynoed 587

I don't know. I doubt with the state of the economy that they are worried about dumping money into a car program that they won't make money on. Maybe in better times.

Man what a sweet car!!! It will last WAY longer than any of those cars also. IMO

The scary things will be what these cars are capable of when people start tuning them, adding smaller blower pulleys, putting bigger superchargers on etc.

Isn't that the truth!

I've passed the same one twice now going opposite ways with a concrete center divider. He was staring at me and I was staring at him. It's only a matter of time until we meet up.

Make sure you have your video camera with you!

I don't think Ford can make money on cars like that. They built the GT but at more money than the $$ and the high powered Mustangs were passed off to Shelby.

Passed off to Shelby? Ford manufactures them and puts Carol's name on them.

The Ford GT was limited production and never designed to be a money maker. GM does not make a lot of money (if any) on the 'vette either. It is a testing ground for new technologies and the flagship product for GM, like Ford's (flagship product) is the Mustang.

The basic Mustangs are built at Flat Rock but all the additional mods and Shelby parts are done in Las Vegas at the Shelby facility. Similar to the way the original Shelby Mustangs were constructed. The volume is too small to just run them down the line to completion.

The Ford GT's weren't built 100% by the normal manufacturing plants either.

http://www.fordgt.net/gt_wixom.html

Because of the Ford GT's low volume requirements and unique modular aluminum body construction, the Ford GT assmbly begins at Novi, MI with final work at Wixom's prototype build center located on the grounds of Wixom Assembly. It is not integrated into the assembly line process at the plant.

I remember reading that GM did not plan on making a profit on the ZR1. Still, it gets them plenty attention and [censored] the Europeans off.

Even the standard Corvettes have plenty of bang for the $$. I don't know what you can buy in any other country that has any more.
