2005 camry XLE 6 cyl. In the mess of collants, I am just lost. I found a chart from zerex website that said to use DEXCOOL for asian cars of the year 2005. So i figured I'd use the Prestone rebate and stock up on some prestone dexcool. Buuuuttt, the i found the zerex asian formula. Prestone doesn't offer an asian formula. So, my question is since zerex recommend dexcool in asian cars before this asian formula [censored], if I do a flush and refill and a cleaner with distilled water and let it run the old stuff out of the block, will a refill with dexcool be a good replacement till the next 150,00 mile change? thanks i tried researching but everything i find contradicts something else i find.

Peak Global lifetime, Prestone all makes/models,Zerex.....any of them will work ok if changed at reasonable intervals.

I would stay away from Dexcool-your original coolant used phosphate based (POAT) inhibitors (Toyota Super Long Life-Pink)-go with Toyota Red, Pink, or Zerex Asian Formula. The Japanese mfrs. do not recommend Dex, and if your Camry has the same open-style coolant expansion tank as my xB does-you run the risk of getting air into the cooling system. I am going to swap mine for a blend of Toyota red & Asian vehicle in the spring, that way if there's a little water left, I can still get a 50/50 mix.

I agree. I don't think you absolutely need phosphate and Asian formula but it's nice to have, but what other good choice does that leave besides Peak Global? And you should stay away from Dexcool and dexclones like Prestone. You could probably get away with using it, but it's not worth the gamble. I think you should either do a bunch of radiator drain and refills with either the Toyota super LL or with the Zerex Asian formula, or just drain the engine block and refill with one of the two mentioned.

About the only time you should use dexcool or dexclone is if it's a late-model GM like '05 or later and has a pressurized reservoir. And even then I would just get the licenses product like Zerex Dexcool instead of an unlicensed dexcool. I wouldn't use the Prestone extnded life in anything basically.

As far as the Asians go, the Zerex chart was made for whatever product Zerex sold at the time. Now they have Zerex Asian, which only comes in a premix, and is next to impossible to find, and impracticle.

I wouldn't waste my money on Toyota pink (a premix only), if you want to buy Toyota, buy the red full strength long life. But, it's ~$18 a gallon.

But, if you're going to do a flush every 2-3 years Peak Global Life only in the full strength, again if you can find it, and at a reasonable price. If not, any of the universals like Peak Long Life or Prestone All Makes will work just fine. Readily available in full strength at reasonable prices.

There is a post here somewhere of a member with Dexcool in his Sienna. The tank is sludgeless, and he's had no issues.

+1

I have used the Prestone all makes in many Japanese cars for years without ever having any problems, some for over 150,000 miles with 3 year change intervals- now using peak global in my 242,000 mile Q45 which previously had prestone in it for over 200,000 miles, again without issue. People worry way too much over this-
