Shotguns don't get a lot of love or press, but there is certainly just a coolness factor to this one.

VR80 FTW
That's on my list to purchase. Anyone currently own one?
do you hunt with it and would YOU recommend it? (I have the Benelli)
I am not really sure what it brings other than novelty value. Do any Military or Police lads here think it has advantages over conventional pump/semi auto?
I don't hunt with it (pheasant) due to the look, and not wanting to gain unwanted attention. I would have no problem hunting with it if it were not for people calling you in for carrying something like that around. I also have a very nice side by side I have used for...oh man, now I feel old...27 years, so I am accurate with it, and it just feels right when in the field looking for birds.
I do use it for pest management on my own acreage and home defense. It has taken out several "varmits" with perfect operation and a lethal shot first time every time so far.
You can't run old and weak shells, as it will not cycle correctly - you must run mid-higher power loads for good operation. I did have to strip and oil it shortly after purchase, as it seemed quite "dry" from the factory. Every heavy/medium load I have run shoots well, and the operation is getting even smoother as she ages. I might try some of my old stock again to see.
Build quality is very VERY good for the price! I would have been impressed with the quality if it would have been double the price, but for less than $700, I don't know how you could go wrong. So, YES, I would highly recommend it.
It includes three different chokes and two different gas plugs - one for high power and one for low power. I have only run the low power plug. I imagine as I continue to break it in, I may try the high power plug and see if it reduces recoil with the loads I am currently running.

Intimidating is what I meant. Are you sure that's what you meant? LOL
Mags also have downsides. For example, if you leave them loaded any length of time, the shells will compress and oval-out, and may not chamber.Speaking for me personally, magazine fed
Forget all things tactical for a second
Mags are easier to load when cold wet fingered ( compared to the average shotgun in a duck blind) plus fumbling for loose shells on the fly etc.
Quieter when traveling after prey.
Plus can carry a mag of slugs/buck ready to do in case of the buck who wants to investigate the dove shoot.
My personal thoughts and preference
