They're trying to get themselves through the slump in sales that's going to happen between now and the end of the year.
Yeap, no different than what happens leading up to elections and the NRA and the gun industry do the same with "they're gonna ban (fill in the blank), so you'd better buy them now!".

I have 14 stamps. One of my cans is 3D printed from Inconel and a couple are fully welded Titanium so I wouldn't say that all cans have 50 bucks of material. I do agree with you that they are priced high but I think limited production is a big part of that.
I strongly suspect that prices wills stabilize to perhaps even fall with the tax being struck. More suppliers coming into a bigger market.

THey were always a sort of niche product, but the barrier to entry is low. Anyone with a 3d printer can get into the business if they don't mind the onerous legal compliance aspects. And if the latter goes away, it's katie bar the door. We'll be printing out cans of our own design at a kiosk at the LGS.

Too bad they couldn't include Destructive Devices on the list...but I get that is probably a harder sell to politicians when we are talking about mortars, M79s and M203s. And I wasn't planning to get another.
