I like the looks of their new SUVs
If they bring back the Dakota and make it not suck, I would so buy one. Always loved the 97-04 Dakota and always wanted one.

Interesting looks. I like it. Oddly, something about it reminds of the mini pickups that were an offshoot of the VW Rabbit back in the '70s, though the styling on this is much more appealing. Noticed they termed it a "Lifestyle vehicle."

Ehh I'm not sure if I like it. I'm not a fan of the unibody pickups. The Chevy Avalanche was the only one I could ever get on board with, even the Explorer Sport Trac isn't too bad.
If they got rid of the rake, shortened the second row by 6''-1' and added that space to the bed I think I would like it. As it is now it kind of reminds me of a Fiat pickup but with some armor plating.

With my above statement being made let me add that I do like the ideas of these kinds of vehicles.
For instance a while ago Jeep was thinking about coming out with a Wrangler pickup type vehicle. It wasn't good for towing, I think 2,000 lbs or so, however it had a 5 foot bed. A large portion of people who buy pickups buy them because of the bed, not necessarily the towing capacity.
I definitely think that a new class of SUV/Truck needs to be made and it would do quite well IMO. Think of it as a more rugged crossover, a good on road vehicle with 20+ MPGs. However whenever you need it to crawl through some mud, go up steep uneven terrain, or you need to carry 1,000 lbs of materials it can do so as well.

If it can deliver the kind of reasonable mileage its sleek profile hints toward, I think it could do well too, for the same reasons you gave. Never bought a bought a pickup, but this kind of design would tempt me - depending on how FE it is. It seems like its been designed with that in mind though.

The Dakota is still in the Dodge line up.

For a long time now I've wondered why they dont market a uni-body based car/truck like the old Ranchero/El Camino. I think they would do very well in the NA market...I would buy one in a heartbeat. No pun intended.
Give me a Chevy/Holden or a Ford Falcon "Ute"! First one smart enough to bring them stateside, gets my money.

Have to say I couldn't have said it better. It just doesn't look right to me.
If it was a single cab with a bigger bed, I think it would look better. But right now, it looks like a sedan with a flat rear windshield and a missing trunk lid.

Chevy tried it with the SSR, didn't do very hot. Though I actually liked the SSR

The SSR was a mediocre car show vehicle that some how made it to production. Not useful for anything as far as I can tell and looks kind of odd when seen now on the road.
I would be interested in one of the Aussie versions though. They seem to be designed to actually function as a practical vehicle.
