I have never seen a bug go anywhere near that many miles. Thats serious miles for any sort of pre-fueinjected car really. 66 was also the last year for the 6V and those headlights like candles.
 
Let's face it, they were lovable, very cleverly designed and constructed and a great value - but they used mechanical technology from about 1940. They were high maintenance but gave a lot of miles per dollar investment.
 
Great thread. I still get emotional over my old '72 Beetle.

I wish I had treated it better, but I was constantly broke, and never had the cash to get the repairs or the upgrades done.

I drove it into the ground, and buried it in a junkyard for $250.
