Continental Deal - Philadelphia area

For people in the Philadelphia area, Tires Etc. is running a good deal on tires this month. They are offering $70 instant discount plus $70 manufacturer rebate on a set of 4 tires installed. Their prices are already in line with Tirerack, so think of it as Tirerack prices, less $70, and no shipping costs, but you have to pay for installation.

Bottom line, I got 4 new True Contacts 195/65-15 for $410 after rebate, including alignment and corrosion removal from my wheels (the alloy does corrode and seizes to the hub regularly, so this wasn't some gimmick. The removal was around the rim to allow for proper bead seal).

If I refused the corrosion removal and alignment it would have been $300 for the set of 4, mounted and balanced.

This is an interesting twist/ add-on I haven't heard before. It is a (almost) necessary service; makes me wonder how they could spin being dirtbags and not performing the service when a thrifty customer demands it not done.

The tire shop I worked at would clean the ugliest bead surfaces quickly for free, and in more depth after-the-fact to cure leaks if the customer had road hazard or the wherewithal to complain shortly after purchase.

We also had "free mounting" of snow tires for the life of the tires but then charged for balancing.

I guess that bean counter could also charge in spring for summer tire changeovers.

antisieze on lugcentric rims will work the lugs off!

Good point. I could have probably argued that this service is standard at any tire shop.....but they weren't BSing about these wheels developing corrosion. I do use anti-seize, and they are hub-centric. So I was ripped off $32.
