About four years ago the Mobil 1 deals started drying up here, and SuperTech was still very affordable.

All the following prices are in C$:

Mobil 1 typically ran about $50 for a 4.4 l jug, but would regularly go on sale for c. $29 to $35 for a 4.4 l jug with a bonus 1 l bottle strapped to it.

Walmart's SuperTech (ST), meanwhile, was around $15 to $18 for a 5 l jug.

So, I switched over to ST.

However, since then ST has taken a big jump in price, and is now $28.88/5 l jug.

ST has been fine, but has never offered my preferred weight of 0W-30 (the one oil I could use in everything, year-round).

Now Walmart is offering Mobil 1 AFE in 0W-30 for $40.

For the $11 difference (OK, $12.xx with tax included), I'm considering going back to Mobil 1.

Your thoughts on whether it's worth it? Thanks.

CT just recently had a deal/sale on M1 and M1 had a promo with up to C$35 off on 3 jugs total making the oil prices very attractive. I got 3 jugs, not that I needed to as I got a few PPE LX 0w-30 and M1 ESP 0w-20 already. I don't use other oils basically.

2007 Dodge Grand Caravan 3.3

2009 Mazda5 2.3

2009 Kia Sedona 3.8

The Kia and the Mazda don't get garaged or plugged in during the winter.

They will both be subjected to multiple cold (very cold - in excess of -30°C) starts this winter.
Thanks 👍 Not really familiar with those but I think you have the right idea. The AFE is not exactly my favorite for anything outside of a fuel sipper Prius or something along those lines but can't say it would hurt anything in those engines either. 🤔

At least it's a 30 grade and the 0w should certainly help you out but you already know that.

Do you plan any UOA?

Is your ST oil still made by Safety Kleen?

I haven't had a UOA done for a long time - I change oil and filter two or three times a year, averaging 5,000 to 10,000 km per change, depending on season and type of driving.

All three engines are pretty durable.

Is the M1 ESP considered to be a superior oil due to its higher PAO content?

Is it reasonable to assume the M1 AFE is not really an upgrade over the ST full synthetic?

Well ESP 0W-40 is expensive here too but not that bad.

No ESP 0W-30 in a multi quart/liter container?
Not that I've found yet - but I've only done online searches of Walmart and Canadian Tire so far.

Edit: Just found it. Pretty pricy here. I would consider it if it goes on sale.

$59.99 + $0.85 environmental fee + 12% tax = $68.14

Ouch!
