Personally, with your current skill set and experience, I would be looking at any new Computer-related Engineering to tie into Transportation; just a hunch and you should definitely do your own due diligence but it seems to me to be poised on growth, especially with electric and alternate fuels on a growth trajectory.

I was in the industry for about 20 years. Started at desktop support and went through application development, data analysis, system admin, DBA roles and ended my career in IT as a project manager. This was good for personal and professional development but at the end I found the whole thing boring and un-challenging.
But you can make good money if you are good at what you do. The field is flooded with mediocrity. With outsourcing overseas, it can be worse but sometimes you do find very talented people who care about what they do and know good enough English to communicate about it.

You nailed it right on money! Have seen it too many times when I was both in IT and my current position. Funny is I'm not in IT currently but I can run circles around some. My test is to ask them to edit the registry.. you normally get the

How does one edit the "registry" in z/OS (or what z/OS uses as a registry)?

Are folks who think jobs get sent to India mistaking the mundane IT work/legacy vs actual computer engineering which involves design portion.
That degree coupled to reasonable people skills leads great job opportunity in sales or tech end.

Computer security is another field where its doubtful they will outsource. If your a large company do you really want to outsource one of your crown jewels (security)?

Yes my friend back in college joined the air force and recently retired I believed as Colonel of Electronic Security for the Air Force. It has now led to making nearly $500k/year as security consultant for corporate world while collecting his Pension as "play money".
