IMO the only reason to use a 2-piece rotor setup is when you go aftermarket to a size that is not commonly sold. Purely a manufacturing economy of scale reason rather than a functional reason.
I imagine the heat transfer on a 2-piece rotor is worse than a typical cast iron setup. Rear only provides about 20% of all braking power so it is not very significant to begin with.

Well your dont want heat transfer into your wheel bearing anyway but wont make a big enough differe anyway. the use of a 2 part rotor is normally use in very high heat things like racing cause it lets the rotor grow with out warping
Maybe this was done to have future brake jobs cost less, by only replacing a smaller rotor?
Or to be more suitable for what otherwise would be a complicated casting?
Steel is stronger than cast gray iron.
Gray iron has better thermal transfer properties than steel.
A composite brake rotor puts each material in its optimal role.
The downside is higher cost.
