Commuting in a "bro truck" /rant

Honestly I think the bro truck rolling coal thing should be 10000$ fine or forfeiture of the vehicle... first offense.

They should also slap on 1000$+ fines for bumpers that are so high they would contact the middle of the back window of a regular car in an accident.

How about blackouts... on taillights and headlights that are so dark you cant see them.. or they cant see at night respectively.

I'm all for tasteful modding even moderate offroad mods.. but when you get to show mods that actually are terrible.. well if they would just enforce the laws they have now we wouldnt have issues.
 
Bro truck and rolling coal are two different issues in my book. If someone wants to jack their truck up, lower it, or buy a sports car all jacked up with bling that's their prerogative. Who are we to judge someone on their choice of vehicles? But defeating emissions, especially something so bad as rolling coal is illegal and stupid.

I guess minivan driving soccer dads, Prius driving hippies, and bicycle weanies need to make fun of someone driving something bigger and badder than their car? (making fun of those drivers to make a point)

I don't have a problem with removing emissions equipment to end up with a vehicle that (1) runs more reliably (2) gets better fuel economy (3) has less maintenance costs.

Rolling coal is stupid.
 
Bro trucks are like the BMW, Benz and Porsche old balding men drive to attract women. Women go crazy when they see them and want a ride with the old guy.

They do not bother me but I do think its stupid. Women must have a hard time getting in them in a dress or skirt and the stability is not what the engineers designed and if I was to be hit by another vehicle I would prefer to be hit by its bumper rather have the front of my vehicle slide under the vehicle that hit me.

Nothing stock has 33" tires on it does it? Like a 265 70 17 is 31.1" and something like a 255/85/16 KM2 is a 33.3 but thats an upsize.
 
Foregoing the looks, what about safety issues?

Bumpers designed to protect you at a certain height, then someone raises or lowers their truck/car?

I bet a good lawyer could get some extra $ out of a bro truck accident.
The owner would have wasted all his cash on "sleeves" though, so good luck getting paid.

None of anybody's business what anybody else drives, or whether or not they "need" it, because you don't know what those guys do on the weekend with it.

It makes no sense to buy a $15,000 penalty box, pay 2x the insurance, buy 2x the tires, maintain 2x the engines, pay 2x the registration, and store 2x the vehicles.

Cheaper and more fun to drive the bro-truck to work.
 
No way its cheaper to drive the BroDozer daily. These trucks cost 50 to 75k and the fuel and tires on it is insane. Look up some used trucks in the 2005 range. Really clean lower mileage trucks are still worth 20k (gas) or 30k (Cummins/Dmax) but high mileage trucks are well under 10k. $1600 for Bro tires vs $400 on a car. Insurance changes would be negligible if you can claim low miles on the truck higher miles on a smaller car.

PSA for the day: Don't wear out your BroDozer, get a commuter car too.

I sell a fair amount of the Raptor factory size tires to F150 owners, 315/70/15 which is just under a 35" tire.
 
I don't really care if they drive some enormous truck with huge tires that is overkill for commuting, it's their money. As long as they aren't being jerks and can actually maneuver a truck that size, not my concern.

My Traverse isn't very practical for commuting when it seats seven and manages about 19 MPG, but I need something to tow the camper.

A 265/75R16 (used on Super Duties until they went to 17+" wheels) is a 33" tire. A 235/85R16 is about the same height.
 
To be honest, I have a soft spot for bro trucks. A few years ago, I got stuck in a snow storm on the I-77 in West Virginia and a guy with a big beard and bro-truck helped to get me unstuck. Really cool and nice guy too. The exact opposite of what my stereotype told me.

My truck came with 275 65 18. 32 inches tall. My friends 2012 2wd had the exact tires. I didn't have any super special tire combo so I'm sure other packages have even taller tires. Especially on 3/4+ ton trucks. 37 is not a very large tire for a full size truck.

Edit. Just looked and Superdutys can be had with 33 inch tires from factory. Platinum SD comes with 34 inch.

I'll quote below what you said. Basically, it was that if they can afford the big fancy truck, they should ALSO have a 2nd commuter car. Which wouldn't be cheaper. If there going to have the big fancy truck, it's cheaper to just have it, rather than park it during the week and drive a penalty box commuter as well.
