I swear if my internet drops again, they might get it where the sun don't shine....Sadly, they are pretty much the only game in town here...

Betting at the moment it's their junk all in one for internet. So, without selling my soul(spending a bunch of money)-I'd like to send comcast back their junk. So...

Just find out which one meets their specifications.
The clerk at BB should be able to tell you that.
I'm fairly sure that the $69.99 one will work with TWC's system.

Get the black color version of any Moto modem because it is the
commercial grade version that is designed for severe service of rental duty.
 
I've used a SB6141 for the past year on cox, my plan used to be 6 Mbps but they just upped their speeds on all their plans so now it's at 15 Mbps. Haven't any problems with the modem or connection.

Short of the tower computer not far from it, it pretty much has the end table to itself..

Could try moving the tower to the end of the table, see if it helps. Granted, it was still acting up when the tower was not there for a while...
 
I have been using Scientific Atlanta modem I purchased used on eBay for 5 bucks. No problems so far in over a year. I am getting the advertised speed for my service type.
 
Have you had a technician check the signal going to the modem in person or over the phone? If you're renting the modem from comcast, I would imagine they would swap out that modem for you. The question is would it cost anything, and since you are having problems with your internet, I would think/hope they would do it for free. I'm not sure if you can pick up a new modem in person, or have one mailed to you. I'm pretty sure with certain devices like eMTA's, comcast has to come install them.
 
Depends on what plan you are on, and what are you going to get in the future.

I have an Arris SB6141, but I am on a 300mbs plan with Time Warner.

Only buy off the comcast supported list.

Arris/motorola makes the best modems..

If you have a Motorola/Arris modem you can go to 192.168.100.1 and see all the modem stats, including signal levels, yourself. Look for a downstream power of -10 dBmV or higher and an upstream power of 30-50 dBmV. Better yet, put up a screen shot of the status page...
 
I had a similar problem it would happen during a phone call so I knew it was a signal issue. The tech replaced outside terminations and gave me high quality combo 2.4 and 5k wifi modem Give Comcast a call
 
Is there money to be saved by having your own modem or are the cable company modem's priced into the service? If there is a savings, how much on average?

Ours through Time Warner cost $7 a month to rent. It was tacked onto the fee for Internet service. We ended up getting the identical $7/month modem for $20 brand new in manufacturer packaging. It's paid for itself a few times over by now. Our internet service is 15/1, so any old modem can keep up with that.
 
I'd suspect the signal is weak before I'd change out the hardware. My comcast used to drop all the time necessitating a modem reboot about twice a week. Comcast came out about 5 times and did some ineffective things. Finally, one day I noticed a comcast truck parked in front of my house and the tech was working on the cable box in my front lawn for about an hour. After that, no more problems. Just keep complaining to comcast until they fix it.

They won't do much but test it over the phone-won't send a tech out. I thought maybe it was just my laptop, but it has been dropping everything in the house lately...

I had the same problems with TWC. I got this one,

Really works great! All the problems that TWC couldn't fix went away. I just hooked it up, called customer service, gave them my MAC #, they activated it and that was that.
 
I bought the Motorola SB6121 a couple of months ago and have been very pleased.

I received the upgraded Comcast gateway, and it lacked the 5 GHz band and my modem rental fee increased to $10/month, so I decided that it made sense to buy my own modem.

The break even time for the Motorola Router is 7 months. (I already had a wireless router used with the old Comcast modem, so losing that capability of the Comcast gateway was a non issue.)
