Im not really affluent, but I only have one car, and its an ev. No issues.Affluent buyers have more than one car. And you can bet if they were limited to only one, it wouldn't be an EV.
Expensive, fast EV's are little more than Jay Leno toys.

Initial costs??My documented Tesla fuel cost is 3.5¢/mile. Good old savings of green folds.
What can I say, I was not driving in the 70's and I've yet to hear anyone recall that decade fondly. You might be the first to indicate that they had a good one, everyone else talks about ripping off smog junk and how nothing ran right otherwise.I was addressing your misunderstanding that ,"Weren’t all of the cars utter crap in the 70’s as emissions controls took a decade plus to mature".
I and other family members had GM vehicles that lasted well over 200k miles, reliably. My parents had an Olds 98 w/a 455 that would get 19 mpg, very reliably. Granted that fuel injection did make engines last more miles, but also better machining practices and tighter tolerances along with better alloys helped too.
BTW, here in Indiana, I've never in 45 years of driving had any kind of law enforcement officer cite me for emissions regulations.Tha is, we don't have mandatory vehicle inspections.

And I have gotten pulled over for an emissions issue. I passed the safety inspection, but had a CEL, so they gave me a fancy inspection sticker which basically says "pull me over and harass me", as I now had 30 (60?) days to pass emissions. No ticket of course, because all was legal, but was stopped all the same. Nuisance.
Well, its easy here, light is on, its a fail. Reset the light but don’t drive long enough to set the readiness monitors, that is a fail too. But one can get an extension if saftey passes, so that is nice. Just an odbii check, no sniffing involved. In person smog test every year for diesels, every two for autos even current models still under factory warranty.
Any dashboard light stop the process, even the dealer cant keep it off - its a joke,
Special "ca parts" you cant find and are ridiculously expensive...
Cal is a scam, but thats a separate topic.
Yeah, but I can just go down the street to one that isn't full and you have a lot less chance of criminals robbing people at a Cosco. It could happen if charging doenst keep up.
Waiting to fuel isnt uniquely a BEV phenomenon go check out costco before a 3 day holiday.

Anyone who waits in line for fuel like that, trying to save a few pennies is an idiot. They most likely burn up whatever they think they're saving by the time they get to the pump. Not to mention wear and tear on their vehicles idling...... Most likely with transmission in drive with their foot on the brake, and the A/C running on Max.It could happen if charging doenst keep up.

A pair of physicians I know (both specialists) both have performance sedans.Im not really affluent, but I only have one car, and its an ev. No issues.

The only time I ever waited for gas in my life was during the Arab oil embargo of the 70's. And even then I went at night, and there were barely more than 1 or 2 cars ahead of me.
So anyone who disagrees with you, or has a different set of circumstances than you is an idiot? How do you know what is going with them in their lives?Anyone who waits in line for fuel like that, trying to save a few pennies is an idiot. More news on EVs and cold weather, this time it’s about the new electric garbage trucks in NYC. What a boondoggle this has turned out to be.

Seems like the wrong choice for that job vs anything that should be remotely surprising???
Diesel garbage trucks have been plowing snow in NY as far back as I can remember, which is a long time. Throw a set of chains on the rear tires and they do a decent job too.Ive never seen a garbage truck double as a snow plow, but it's a good idea I guess?
No doubt they are having a hard time finding an electric to plow snow for 12 hours.

Apparently even the diesels dont work that well.

I didn't say that. I said anyone who chooses to wait in line to save a few cents is an idiot. What "circumstances" would force a person to choose to wait in a line, when there is more than likely a gas station 2 blocks away with open pumps? So anyone who disagrees with you, or has a different set of circumstances than you is an idiot?

Well, these are the people working for the citizens of NYC. One would think that being in that position they would research and ask the questions before forking out over $500,000 of the taxpayers money for each truck. That doesn’t even count the cost of the chargers. But agenda overrules common sense here and unfortunately it’s the same in most places now.
With the diesel it does make sense to attach snow plows to these trucks. The faster they clear the streets the better.
No disputing that! They can plow and pick up garbage at the same time. LOLThey put garbage all over the streets in NY anyway so I guess it makes sense, never seen this myself.
