What can I say, I was not driving in the 70's and I've yet to hear anyone recall that decade fondly. You might be the first to indicate that they had a good one, everyone else talks about ripping off smog junk and how nothing ran right otherwise.
And I have gotten pulled over for an emissions issue. I passed the safety inspection, but had a CEL, so they gave me a fancy inspection sticker which basically says "pull me over and harass me", as I now had 30 (60?) days to pass emissions. No ticket of course, because all was legal, but was stopped all the same. Nuisance.
In person smog test every year for diesels, every two for autos even current models still under factory warranty.
Any dashboard light stop the process, even the dealer cant keep it off - its a joke,
Special "ca parts" you cant find and are ridiculously expensive...

Well, its easy here, light is on, its a fail. Reset the light but don’t drive long enough to set the readiness monitors, that is a fail too. But one can get an extension if saftey passes, so that is nice. Just an odbii check, no sniffing involved.
Up to two vehicles now that no longer have to pass though, so I guess I shouldn’t complain. Only have to pass for 20 years here. I guess they figured it’d be dead or nearly so after that. Truthfully, they usually are at that point.
Yeah, but I can just go down the street to one that isn't full and you have a lot less chance of criminals robbing people at a Cosco.
Much less chance of criminal interaction yet charging at home.

Anyone who waits in line for fuel like that, trying to save a few pennies is an idiot. They most likely burn up whatever they think they're saving by the time they get to the pump. Not to mention wear and tear on their vehicles idling...... Most likely with transmission in drive with their foot on the brake, and the A/C running on Max.
The only time I ever waited for gas in my life was during the Arab oil embargo of the 70's. And even then I went at night, and there were barely more than 1 or 2 cars ahead of me.

I see people waiting at Arcos and costco's all the time.
The EV equivalent of this idiocy is wait to leave on noon the day before christmas and expect all open chargers.
Or flying on the day before Christmas and complaining how busy it is.
Holiday travels stories exist for every form of transportation.
People regularly run out of gasoline for a variety of foolish reasons.
Waiting in line is pretty common during power outages here in the sierras at least couple times a year.

Personally I hate waiting in lines which is why I hit Costco for my gas hogs at 8:00 AM. Got my choice of pumps. This is a perfect reason for having an EV that never waits in line for fuel. And what about those poor people who have to drive somewhere to get fuel? Are they idiots too?
Ive never seen a garbage truck double as a snow plow, but it's a good idea I guess?
No doubt they are having a hard time finding an electric to plow snow for 12 hours.
Seems like the wrong choice for that job vs anything that should be remotely surprising???

Well, these are the people working for the citizens of NYC. One would think that being in that position they would research and ask the questions before forking out over $500,000 of the taxpayers money for each truck. That doesn’t even count the cost of the chargers. But agenda overrules common sense here and unfortunately it’s the same in most places now.
With the diesel it does make sense to attach snow plows to these trucks. The faster they clear the streets the better.
Diesel garbage trucks have been plowing snow in NY as far back as I can remember, which is a long time. Throw a set of chains on the rear tires and they do a decent job too.
I didn't say that. I said anyone who chooses to wait in line to save a few cents is an idiot. What "circumstances" would force a person to choose to wait in a line, when there is more than likely a gas station 2 blocks away with open pumps?
It's a foolish habit many get into. When I lived in Phoenix I would see these people lined up at Costco, 6 to 8 deep every weekend afternoon. All with their engines running. It makes no sense. It's nothing more than a dumb habit people get into.
What they're saving, (if it's in fact anything), is miniscule. Then they go into Costco and come out with $500.00 worth of crap in their carts.... And worry about saving a buck on gas.
Another thing that's foolish is grocery store "points" toward "discounted" gas. We have a local grocery outlet here, (Smith's), that pulls that. They're priced 20 cents above everyone else at the pump.
But if you collect enough "points" by buying your groceries there, (they're higher than most everyone else in town on almost everything), they lower the price to within a couple of cents of what the discounted places sell for all the time with no gimmicks.
It's nothing but a ploy to get you to shop there, and pay more for your groceries, so you can get your gas "discounted" from what was overpriced to begin with.... Yet they line up for it. Just like Costco does to get you into the store.
