How many Camry’s would you want to buy though? How many Camry's can you buy with the price of one Plaid?
Oof. Imagine that life though. What does the Plaid give you a Camry doesnt? The typical answer is "its fast man". The camry is also more than fast enough to cost you your license.
It’s a lot less funny to put a “Friends of Coal” license plate on a Camry, something I would absolutely do with a Plaid or any other EV.What does the Plaid give you a Camry doesnt? The typical answer is "its fast man". The camry is also more than fast enough to cost you your license.
They should include at the bottom, "And The Wheels Going Round And Round".It’s a lot less funny to put a “Friends of Coal” license plate on a Camry, something I would absolutely do with a Plaid or any other EV. View attachment 133045
This is why battery powered cars are just a stepping stone, it's a trip backwards in time and a major inconvenience to a significant portion of the population. Battery powered cars will never penetrate more than 30% of the vehicles on the road. They obsolete already and not even off the ground and running yet. Also what about apartment dwellers in crowded urban areas? It really is not going to work there at all. Imagine this in NYC, a real nightmare.
Going by what I paid, ($130K vs. $27K), just under 5.How many Camry's can you buy with the price of one Plaid?
A 1/4 mile is 1,320 feet. I'm 70 and can walk that much faster. Heck, from the back corner of my local Walmart, to the back of the opposite end of the parking lot is further than that. That's a 5 minute journey.... Even pushing a full cart.
Let's be real, unless you're an enthusiast an EV on a 20 hour trip is a major inconvenience for some, most everyone.https://www.evtripplanner.com/ says it is 20:19 and 1326.6 miles no matter what you drive. Plus 3:22 spent charging a Tesla Model 3 LR. 8 stops, none over 31 minutes.
We could have another thread on the safety of rest stops (or lack thereof) during a 20 hour drive. You claim fuel stops are only 5 minutes, but they are at least 15 minutes getting off/on interstate plus pee breaks run them up to as much as 30 minutes.
"nowhere for me to charge up there", so they don't have electricity at all? A 120V 15A outlet works. Slowly, but works, and is not "nowhere". Electric dryer outlets are often found inside garages and work even better. Best yet is an RV NEMA 14-50 outlet, also used for welders. You suffer from The Gas Station Fallacy. You believe because you have always used gas stations, depended on gas stations, therefore no EV is useful or practical without gas stations.
No, because the emissions add-ons of the 1970's could be easily removed/bypassed ( a GM guy's experience) leaving us with the basic reliable pre-emission drivetrain.Weren’t all of the cars utter crap in the 70’s as emissions controls took a decade plus to mature? Nobody liked that, but the 90’s had some nice reliable cars, even the 2000’s.
The various grandfathering of existing vehicles will last for quite sometime. Just buy what you want, keep it for 20 years. No small order I know.
I compared my C40 to my RDX on a 5 hour trip (Across the state of Missouri, diagonally). The C40 added 30 minutes to the trip. I took both at a leisurely rate, stopping to eat or whatever whenever I felt like it.Let's be real, unless you're an enthusiast an EV on a 20 hour trip is a major inconvenience for some, most everyone.
Come on, safety of rest stops? at least 15 minutes getting off interstates and bathroom breaks another 15 minutes. *LOL* and where do you charge the EV? While you are driving on the interstate?
I mean, let's acknowledge the limitations and safety of the charge points as well as the ridiculous long recharge time of EVs on long trips instead of making believe a ICE vehicle is almost the same. Not even close.
Sure, depends on what you want. Porsche, Vette, Caddy, you name it. If you want the best in any product, pony up the cash, right? How many Camry's can you buy with the price of one Plaid?
Oh man, I dunno. I have a pretty equal amount of traits from each circle, but only "technical innovation" matters to me from the white circle, unless fuel economy means EV vs. Gas.To me the EV discussions are fascinating mostly not for the technical aspects but for the cultural elements. We are entering maybe the most profound tech/societal evolution this country has ever seen. It is still very unclear if the EV changes will be simply the creation of a new niche or a complete revolution in our transportation system and its ancillary infrastuctures. This Venn diagram captures the essence of these changes but I believe it (purposely?) leaves out the environmental aspects and the concomitant and annoying virtue signaling.
I fall somewhere in the blue circle. Does any of this describe you?

A 20 hour drive is a major source for fun for everyone else in an ICE? I think most people, car people or otherwise, would find that a long day. Charging stops or not. Charging would make worse, no doubt. Sitting still for 5 hours straight until the gas tank runs down? that's somehow more fun??? last I did that, it sure didn't feel like "fun". I was so glad to get out and stretch--and so did not want to get back in for the next 5 hour leg.Let's be real, unless you're an enthusiast an EV on a 20 hour trip is a major inconvenience for some, most everyone.
Low compression smog heads with low lift camshafts? the engines were still neutered. No, because the emissions add-ons of the 1970's could be easily removed/bypassed ( a GM guy's experience) leaving us with the basic reliable pre-emission drivetrain.
Dont put words in my mouth or cherry pick lines. But I am glad you agree = "Charging would make worse, no doubt" and that is why I say to each their own whatever floats their boat, ICE or EV.A 20 hour drive is a major source for fun for everyone else in an ICE? Exactly and you are happy with your vehicle. Nothing wrong with that, I replied just above why this doesnt work for me.I compared my C40 to my RDX on a 5 hour trip (Across the state of Missouri, diagonally). The C40 added 30 minutes to the trip. I took both at a leisurely rate, stopping to eat or whatever whenever I felt like it.
I stopped to charge the C40 twice. Once at a gas station which offered fresh pizza, and once at Wal-mart supercenter. Neither felt sketchy and both afforded me a bathroom and some food. I stopped once for fuel in the Acura, and also ate a burger at the same stop. I stopped another time for the bathroom and something to drink.
Cool... You got the shirt; all you need is the car! Take me for a spin when ya get it! Just kidding, of course. The only thing I have that's "Plaid" is a shirt. I haven't worn it since the 70's.
