I just read thru the coffee maker recommendations and there are some good ones (I use a Bunn 8 cup phase brew) for sure but that's only part the battle of getting a good cup. Another part is a consistent grind, to fine and you end up with bitter coffee, to course you end with a weak brew. The other part is the freshest roasted beans you can get your hands on, unfortunately I live in a small town and have to order mine online which is why I been tossing around the idea of roasting my own, but that's another thread.

I was using an old spice mill for years and between shaking it while it was grinding with the right amount of time it worked ok and was much better than buying ground coffee in a can but I finally decided to spend the money a get a good grinder. I ended up with the Baratza Virtuoso burr grinder. I've had it for five years of trouble free service and it grinds very consistent.

I guess one other part would be not to grind your beans until your ready to make a cup.

I enjoy a great cup of coffee as much as the next guy but all that sounds like too much work. Maxwell House suits me just fine

Though the girlfriend and I did splurge last year and bought a $600 Breville espresso machine, that thing makes a delicious cup of coffee. But I never use it, the time and mess involved doesn't warrant the better cup of coffee in my book.

Not entirely true. Although fresh beans are definitely better than old beans, I've roasted my own coffee and then brewed it fresh. Didn't have the developed flavors and read it takes around 7 days. I tried that and like chili that has been aged it tastes a lot better.

I bought a Cuisinart burt grinder many years ago and still grind weekly. They still make and sell it. Use reusable filters for the Keurig so I can load 3 for the day. No way can a disposable k cup come close to the quality. With temp today of only 2 I went through alot more.
Sams club offers some good whole bean coffees for pretty cheap. Zavidia, a roaster from Canada has a good hazelnut. Just threw out the empty bag of a fair medium roast that I hope they have when we go shopping after the holiday.

I've found that 3 days is pretty optimal.. you have to let the beans degas.
after about 10 weeks it will start getting noticably worse.. just saw some k-cups with 1.5year date code

We were gifted a Keruig Mini a few years ago and my wife loves it but she is not picky about her cup so when she's in the big city she goes to Big Lots and picks up several boxes cheap, well for k cups it's cheap, I think I figure it was costing her around $50 a pound.

I started using the reusable thing that came with the mini but what a pain. I have a few ekobrew and solo fill I use and I have to admit it makes a pretty decent cup. But I still think the biggest part of that is grinding right before I make it.

Wally world and Hy Vee use to carry whole beans in the dispensers and was about as fresh as I could get but they all got rid of those so online is my only choice. Even the coffee shops we have in town don't carry a good variety of whole beans.

I have Baratza as well. I buy mine refurbed off of their website. Many years of trouble free service both at home and work
