Woman Alone With Grandson Is Home Invasion Victim At Valleybrook In Hixson
Sunday, November 8, 2020
A woman who was alone with her grandson was a home invasion victim at Valleybrook in Hixson on Saturday night.
The woman said she had left her carport door up about two feet and two youths got in by shimming on their stomachs.
They held her and the grandson at gunpoint while taking items from the home on Tuscany Place.
Those included three laptop computers, two Ipads, two phones and cash.
The intruders wore hooded sweatshirts and jeans.
They were described as young Black males. One was about 5'6" and the other about 5'7"
Chattanooga tn....

Good advise.
I do two other things:

1) My garage is attached to house, if I'm working in the backyard, I lock the door going into my kitchen so no one could sneak into the house.
2) If I occasionally park in the driveway overnight, I remove the garage door Opener from vehicle.

If a homeowner needs to leave the garage door open, there are Sensors you can purchase that will buzz inside the house if anyone breaks the beam
while entering garage.

I do not live in a high crime area, but you just never know.

Wow what a coincidence. We traveled to Hixson this past Saturday to watch a girls softball tournament my grand-daughter was playing in.
Glad the grandmother and grandson weren't injured and hope they catch those thugs.

And your basement door.
Years ago I came home to an intruder.
Actually two, one took off when I started fighting off the other. He was in the bathroom and I started choking him and it felt like he threw water on me but he was hitting me in the head with a pistol. The water was blood.
Alone I decided to take him out and throw him out. Later he was captured
at a local hospital. My area is sparse farm country. Live and learn.
My newspaper clippings didn't attach well from my phone. Maybe later.

All of the above and I take it a step further - if I'm doing yard work, even if I'm out front, the garage door stays closed. If I didn't bring everything I needed outside, I open the door, get what I forgot, and close it again.

I also lock the cars in the garage.

I always encourage women to carry. It's such a shame she didn't kill these roaches, she would've made the world a better place. By the way,I formally apologize to actual roaches (the insect) for offending them by comparing them to this scum.

I too fully support the Castle Doctrine, whether in your home or in your car. In Texas, the Castle Doctrine extends from your home and into your car, where it applies there too.

I also live in Hixson, a basically crime free suburb, however my neighbor used to consistently leave their garage door open during the day. As such any contractor or repair person would see the door open consistently. Someone just walked in and stole all the available lawn equipment, tools etc. Neighbors believe it was a contractor that was doing work for several days on the street and one of the employees took advantage of what he saw.

In many areas nighttime car break-ins are a problem and often in the owners driveway.. The 'word' is=no garage opener-valuables-registration/insurance info in the car. Most victims say to just leave the vehicle unlocked as the break-in repairs can be expensive.

My garage is also attached to the house. One thing we do every night before going to sleep is checking to make sure it is closed. I also installed a security door / deadbolt, in which you must use a code to enter the house. So if we did leave the garage open, we have another line of defense from anyone coming in. Plus a camera in the garage as well, if we want to check before going out for whatever reason.

The car we leave in the driveway also does not have a garage door opener in it. Only the cars parked in the garage have it, just in case. We also get a lot of "door checkers" in our neighborhood.

Sad situation and scary for this person. However at same time statistics/math/reality say NOTHING will happen the vast majority of the time to us.

Naive but I live life the way I grew up, unlocked car doors and unlocked home(except if away for long weekend).

We had a conversation about Insurance the other day here.
I had Erie Insurance of PA for about 35 years.
I dumped them after my incident.

My carpets were ruined with his blood and mine
I called to file a claim with my home owners ins.

True- They said they could not cover any damages because the intruder WAS NOT and invited guest................
I dumped them at the end of that term.

Opportunity brings all this on people. Imagine having a grizzly bear or mountain lion in there. Assume nothing and have a walking dead or zombie apocalypse mentality about securing your surrounding. I can recommend the Doberman as I have had three and the bite now ask questions later process is fail proof.
