I recently bought a '16 Silverado with the 4.3 Ecotec3, it had direct injection and the dreaded AFM cylinder deactivation. The problems with both of these features come from deposits from the oil, in some cases from neglected OCIs. The truck calls for 5w30, are there any oil brands known for running cleaner? Dino or syn? Really like the truck so far and would like to do whatever I can to help prevent problems later. DEXOS rated too. Thanks

I am wondering the same for my sisters chevy.

Qsud 5w30 has low noack according to pqia tests on 5w30.
It is about 8.6

And in az after warranty runs out could you use 10w30?

The Pennzoil synthetics and even Gold blend are all Dexos rated and excellent at maintaining factory cleanliness.

If your engine and temps allow - M1 10W30 is one of the better oils for a GDI engine : Low NOACK , lower calcium (prevents LSPI) and least VII's (new culprit in intake valve deposits) in GDI engines. I am using this until new GF6 and DEXOS 1: 2015 syn oils come out .

I believe LSPI can be an issue with turbo GDI engines but can not find anything much regarding non - GDI engines ? I'm fine with SOPUS synthetics in my non - GDI engines but that extremely high calcium in SOPUS oils is a little disconcerting in a GDI engine as compared to M1 synthetic 5W/10W 30 oils which is lower in calcium yet still gets decent cleaning reviews . The GDI engine is the one engine that just really points to M1 10W30 as being a darn good option to delay / postpone the intake valve deposit walnut blasting that often can rear it's head at 30K miles . * A lot of folks say GM and Japanese GDI engines have done a pretty good figuring out the GDI preventive intake valve deposit thing but Fords , VW's and possibly Hyundai / Kia are secretly expressed shiped to Area 51 for intake vale cleaning after 30K miles (lol ) ! Not to get off topic but my theory to deal with intake valve deposits in a GDI engine : 1) Use only Top Tier gas 2) Use M1 10W30 if temps and manual permit for it's low NOACK and least VII's 3) limit OCI's to 5K miles 4) Do not lug the engine - keep RPM's at 2K or above if possible (I use "sport mode" electronic AT option).

Through extensive on - line research , the aid of a weegee board and devining rods "I put the M1 10W30 NOACK squarely between 6.0 ~ 6.9". QSUD 10W30 shows new specs for NOACK at 5.6 (most likly with GTL base stocks) however M1's base stocks are pretty good themselves thus why I believe the M1 10W30 NOACK of 6.0 ~ 6.9 is a pretty accurate estimate.

Been trying to find out for the longest time.

I thought qsud 10w30 noack was 5.0
Where did you see 5.6?
Mobil just needs to specify noack so we all quit speculating.
God knows i have spent a lot of time too trying to figure it out.
Mobil provides it for theoretical blends but not for off the shelf products.

My mistake saying QSUD was 5.6 I believe the spec is out there showing 5.0 (awesome ) .
