I had a wierd stumbling idle and slight hesitation under load in my Mustang, which I can accredit to bad gas, because after I put half a tank of 93 in, it went away.
But just to make sure, I cleaned the MAF sensor and throttle body with the proper CRC cleaners.
The MAF wasn't as bad as I thought, considering I use an oiled filter, but the throttle body was a mess!
I have almost fifty thousand miles on it and the dirt was caked on!
It has a dual blade type throttle body. The blades were decent, but the bottom half of it was horrid.
I wish I had taken pictures..
Anyway, even after the idle problem had already cleared up, I can honestly say I felt an imrovement. The idle seems smoother and seems to rev more freely. Can some of it be all in my head? Sure, but I honestly think it really did improve throttle response and smoothness.
Give it a shot the next time you are under the hood!
