clay bar smearing

Hello,

Am in the process of prepping my 2004 Saab 9-3 (silver) and my 82 MB 300CD (lapis blue metallic) for Zaino.

Did meguiar's gold class wash first, then clay, then dawn dish detergent wash.

While doing the clay (new zaino z-18, there were a few spots where I guess my bar wasnt lubed enough, and there is some clay residue, very, very thin, on the surface.

I thought the dawn wash would get rid of it, but no dice.

Im going to do Zaino ZPC at least on the 82, as there are some very fine swirls visible, and a few scratches that I want to take care of. Ill also be dzoing AIO on both.

Do you think either of these products will remove the clay residue, or do you think I should use something else???

Go over those spots with clay again should remove them. That has been my experience when I was first learning how to use clay properly. Not enough QD causes that, generally. Try that, and use plenty of clay lube on those areas.

+1, a well lubed claybar does a nice job of removing clay. It's part of the learning process, unfortunately it's also the reason some people say clay scratches paint (Not you or JRZR2).

I tried that, some spots it worked OK, others it didnt work well... Guess Ill try again tomorrow.

Would another product take them off as part of the course of prepping the paint?

As a SWAG, try gently rolling them into a ball with your finger. Kind of like rolling tape residue off of a slick surface if you have done that. Try it dry but be gentle and cause it to roll, don't try to wipe it off.

If that doesn't work, chill it with an ice cube and try again.

JHZR2: Sure seems like you don't have a lot of detailing skills , why dont you bring it too a Pro and let him take care of it for you. I never had any problems using clay , very simple and easy.

Here's a pic of some of it. Comes right up with Ipa or zaino zpc. Smearing with a finger doesn't do anything...

I was going to say you could try IPA, but it seems you have and it worked.
