Instead of knowing, maybe you should have owned one. I did. 3k OCIs with pennzoil both conventional and synthetic killed it just above 100k miles. It had more synthetic than conventional. Everything but the engine on that Avalon was well done, though. Great cruising car, roomy and comfy.

I know of one that has gone over 315,000 miles. If you did 3K changes with "more synthetic than conventional" then I'm thinking yours had something else going on besides the typical 1MZ-FE "oil gelling" issue.

Oil gelling wasn't the issue. The passages were too small and become blocked starving the engine of oil. It went from zero consumption to about 1qt per week in literally 7 days. We had the "coupon" for the free cleaning but the dealer couldn't do it soon enough so we just dumped it. It wasn't worth much anyway.

I should add that I have an uncle who has the car that rolled off the assembly line directly in front of it. Carbon copy car, exact same. He uses nothing but Amsoil and regularly runs flushes/cleaners. His is still running with no issues at 200k.

I never have run a flush or cleaner in mine, and I've posted valvetrain pictures here multiple times at various intervals up to and including 299,000 miles. It doesn't look perfect in the back bank but it looks very good considering the mileage, so I don't think your uncle's use of a flush has anything to do with it IMO.

So were the passages too small as in cast or drilled improperly? How was that determined do you know? It's surprising that an engine with oil starvation made it to 100,000 miles.

You'd think with Amsoil he wouldn't need flushes and cleaners. Is he running the oil as long as Amsoil states it can be run? Or is there a shortened interval they recommend for that engine? Thanks.

I don't know for sure. I will ask. I think he runs the SS 5W30 in it.

Amsoil SS 5W30 changed every 5k miles or 1 year. Whichever comes first. also uses the Ea057 filter.

Well, it's not that I just knew it, I was the one who did oil changes (and other maintenance) on a 2002 2.4 Camry for years after my friend bought it and I continue to help him with it to this day. I also picked out the car for him when he bought it years ago.
