Chrysler turns its first profit since bankruptcy

Woot! I'm frankly amazed, I didn't think they'd make it, although I really want them to.

I got a really good look at the re-styled 2011 Charger a few weeks ago, and WOW. Its a completely different look than the previous one, and a much more suitable homage to the 2nd-generation (68-70) Charger that we all know and love. I could now deal with the Charger instead of a Challenger as "my midlife crisis car" and still have 4 doors for the family ;-)

I also had an Avenger rental last week. I have been absolutely disgusted and horrified by my previous Avenger or Sebring rentals for the past many years, but the big re-work that came with changing the name of the Sebring to "200" also took effect on the 2011 Avenger, and its like a completely different vehicle. Its still based on the same chassis, but so much has been changed both cosmetically and functionally that its for all practical purposes a brand new car. Even in cheapened-down white exterior/black interior rental trim, it was tight, QUIET (we're talking Ford Panther quiet here!) and comfortable. Mine had the 2.4L GEMA engine but the variable valve timing on the GEMA really made a huge difference compared to the old 2.4 in my wife's PT. Not blistering, but not a danger to others I'll bet the Avenger with the Pentastar v6 absolutely screams. But it turns the wrong wheels, so I'm not as interested as I am in the Charger.

All of those feelings of the exterior looking nice and the interior seeming luxurious faded away as soon as I started driving the 200 around.

The brakes were mushy, the gas pedal wasn't very responsive, and the transmission shuddered to a stop each and every time.

After my short little test drive was over and done with, the CEL came on for the next person, so they had to take it out of the group of test drive vehicles at the car show. It only had 656 miles on it when I drove it.

The Fiat 500 on the other hand, met all my expectations, and left me with a smile on my face.

Its a tale of two entirely different Chryslers, in my opinion.

BC.

They better make a profit out of their inability to produce cars fast enough. I'm on a waiting list for July.

Be careful what you wish for.....

The Chrysler name would have lived on....and would be selling things like this:

Yikes!

Chrysler is going to do well once law enforcement can not buy any more Police Interceptors which will be in September..The Chargers are going to be everywhere..More so in the South as they want nothing but V8 rear drive cars.

OH Chrysler why are you tempting me!?

Don't drive one! The new Eagle Hemi is a fantastic engine design with MEGA torque at any speed.

They just need to bring that 8 speed trans online asap!

No, they shouldn't have.

The economic devastation Chrysler and GM failing would have caused in the US would be unprecedented.

Saving them is what kept America from going into a spiraling depression, and possible social collapse.

Anyone who CAN'T see that....well, they're just not too bright.

If Chrysler is so big that it can't be allowed to fail without dragging the U.S. into a depression, it certainly sounds like a corporation that's too dangerous to remain that large. Break it up into smaller, safer companies.

I'm trying to decide if that was sarcasm. *Squints*
Because I know you would be referring to me.
