lovcom- really? I've never seen these demographics. Would you mind posting a link where you've read about the demographics of Honda/Toyota owners vs. those that would buy a Chrysler product? I'd be fascinated to read about this, especially how intelligence relates to these product purchases.

(Note: something tells me I will never, ever get a link to this information).

All we need to do now is to trim a little fat off of the constitution ...repeal a few labor laws here and there..child education requirements (like school being part of every kid's routine)....accept the notion that "medical treatment" isn't something that a sick person should get....include housing and the ability to feed themselves..and everyone can be happy.

Amen, bro. Let's lower our standards to the developing world. Don't do the right thing

Chrysler has long been following the path of AMC, and this is (to me) the writing on the wall. AMC had the Javelin, the Matador, and the Concours, which were in demand. The problem was that when you bought one you payed waaay more for it than you did the comparable Ford or GM model, which was inarguably built better than the AMC. Chrysler is following the same lead.

Nope wrong. Not many people want a Chyrsler product.

What is killing Chrysler is that the dumb people today have less money then a year or two ago...

Chrysler should have immulated the model line up of Honda and Toyota, and if they had, they would not be in the mess they are in today. Doing this would also attract smarter people, the type that would be a bit less impacted by a recession, and high gas prices.

Chrysler is the picture of everything wrong with the USA. Excess. Showboating. Not counting the cost. Buy now, pay later. No sense of delayed gratification. Big fat trucks and SUV's and the financial future of the family be [censored].

They make big V8 cars and trucks that get sheet MPG, lower then average reliability, and sheet resale value. So tell me, when a person buys a car from Chrysler, what does it say about him?

See what I mean about the differences in demographics?

The arrogance on this board hits a new high.

Ironically, the Jeep Wrangler, for most of the last 20 years, has held the top spot for resale value.

Btw, the new JK Wrangler has been rated at the bottom for initial quality. However, I've had 20k trouble-free miles on mine, and it is the most solidly built full frame vehicle I've owned or even driven. I've tortured it off-road, too.

Yep, I wish I was half as smart as you.

^^^I never had any problems with my V-6 5 speed 2001 Ram p/u over the 7 years I owned it that wasn't covered by warranty. Also, it got better gas mileage than a friend's V-6 Toyota and had fewer problems. I kinda get sick of made-up nonsense being posted on this forum by the "smarter" people who pay too much of their higher, more stable incomes for their over rated imports.

Ask the "smart" guy how much it costs when a Toyota breaks. We've got 2 4 Runners in our family, and just the price for parts is outrageous. Even small, simple parts. Many independent shops won't do major work on them. Only smart mechanics can work on them, right?

Oh my God.

I am rarely speechless...

I think I've just met the stupidest person on the internet. Here on BITOG, of all places. Stupidest and most arrogant. Please, please, PLEASE tell me more. I just want to cut and paste your post and send it to every one that I know, it really is the most extreme example of idiocy I've ever seen.

I suppose that you own a Chrysler yourself, judging by your grammar skills.

But please regale us with your wonderful insight into the world of socio-economic research. I am positively DYING to see ANY SHRED of evidence to back up your claim.

I apologize in advance as I'm not one to stoop to name-calling or petty attacks, but this is truly as pathetic as watching a lobotomy recipient trying to formulate an advanced theory of thermonuclear dynamics.

My bro in law just traded in his 03 Dodge Neon for a 09 Pontiac Vibe. He had problems with his dodge neon not starting that the dealer couldn't figure out what was wrong. Got fed up and traded it in. I had nothing to do with his decision to buy the vibe. it bothers me that he bought the same car that my wife drives though.

According to lovcom, he has now just gained 50 IQ points. Or maybe it's only 25 because it's re-badged.

Dont be so much in a rush to condemn him, he has somewhat accurate information. After reading this, I did a google search using "demographics of toyota, honda and chrysler owners". On the 4th hit down, I got this link from Detnews.com

http://www.detnews.com/2005/autosinsider/0508/15/A01-280996.htm

it quotes the following:
"Overall, buyers of domestic-brand vehicles tend to be older, less educated and less wealthy than owners of import brands. Over the past 10 years, the gap in income and education has widened, with the most desirable customers flocking to foreign brands."

While that was only one article, I find it odd that it was on the 4th link of 54,800 hits using the most popular search engine out there. While I do not totally agree with all the poster's opinions in that post, to call him 'stupid and arrogant", and yet not even research where he gets his opinion and why (as it seems others in a professional level feel the same way, and feel it enough to print it), makes you look, well, stupid and arrogant.. No matter what you may feel about the "big three", they are in the red for a reason. And from what I have seen, most companies that fail, or are on thier way to failing, are a result of 'stupid' decisions.. I hope this wil help in your 'Shred of evidence", but I will let you research the rest..

Oh, wait...Let me find my shield for the bashing I am about to get!!

actually, his IQ may not be that high. He's 25, bald, lives with his parents, has never had a girlfriend, never been to a day of college, and works at walmart full time graveyard shift in the grocery section as a peon.

When my wife heard that he bought a vibe, her response was "what was he thinking? he won't ever be able to get a girlfriend now, the vibe is a family vehicle"

Your source doesn't offer any more insight to the OP's comment in any way.

Older people favor domestics for a variety of reasons. Check the "Chinese and Japanese" history thread going on right now.

And guess who has the least amount of college degrees for an age group right now in this country- people over fifty! That's like saying "since people over fifty are more likely to buy American, it must mean that most American car buyers have prostate problems and take Viagra, since people over fifty are more apt to suffer from these problems."

I've searched and searched for real evidence showing that people that buy Chrysler are stupid and poor and people that are smart and have money buy Honda. I have not found it yet, nor do I plan on it. The OP is welcome to prove me wrong, as is anyone. Until then I stand by my assertion.
