Chrysler Standards - Questions

Ford and Chrysler use different colors of an established European formula - "G-05". Go with Zerex G-05. It's HOAT (reduced silicate content as co-corrosion inhibitor). It's reasonably priced (about $12.00 at Pep Boys). And, except for marker dye color (yellow instead of orange), it's the same chemistry as ChryCorp's orange brew. I have nothing against DEX-COOL or its clones - in fact I'm running WalMart SuperTech "All Makes" extended-life antifreeze (made by Prestone) in my Sonata. No problems. But, while you're under warranty, stick with a G-05. G-05 has been used for over 20 years by Mercedes, so it does have a track record. Texaco also has a new G-05 variant out specifically recommended for Fords and Mopars, but I have yet to see it on the shelves. Both the Zerex and Texaco G-05s are in gold jugs, just so you know what to look for.

i would more concerned as to why a 2005 needs coolant to be added.

Ray, thanks for the response. You are correct, my pickup doesn't need to have coolant added.

But, when the time comes, I want to have what I need on hand.

Hello, newbie with a question!

I have a 2005 Ram SRT10.

The ram owners manual calls for PN 05066386AA or equivalent.

I found the PN on the internet and it references Chrysler MS9769.

Now, this is where I get dangerous. The Prestone Extended Life (Dex-Cool) that I currently use for my GM vehicles is OAT (it also says on the jug that it satisfies MS9769).

The Ram part number's antifreeze is actually HOAT not OAT.

So, what should I do? Just use the Prestone that I already have (OAT)? It would be nice to not have to keep 2 types of antifreeze on hand. Should I be worried about the missing H?

Last, does the H just mean they threw a few silicates in?

Really last, is MS9769 a performance standard or does it mean that they have to put certain additives (chemicals) in the product?
