The Challenger is a retro vehicle and was designed with attempts to stay true to the old Challanger/Cuda muscle cars. The rather plain interior design reflects that. Check out some photos sometime of a 70-74 Challaneger/Cuda and then check out the new 09. Very similar. That was their plan.

However, with that said, the interior itself is of the highest quality construction/material wise IMO. Dodge hit it out of the park IMo with the retro Challenger. I would LOVE one of those.

I think Lovcom is actually 3Toyotas little Brother. If it isn't a Toyota it is junk.

People like that just are not worth the effort.

Yeah, that would be really cool. I was always a Plymouth guy. I always liked their muscle cars better than the Dodge versions. Same engines and same basic things just as we have today but I just liked the Plymouth versions better.

If Dodge ever does a retro 1970 Plymouth Road Runner Superbird/1969 Dodge Charger Daytona I will buy #1.

they depreciate like crazy . We've seen 2007 DODGE Calibers with 20,000 > 28,000 miles for low as $8,999 in yesterdays paper . Ouch . Only reason we'd purchase a CALIBER is for the cooler that comes with it standard . Nice touch ;- ) . A beer drinkers paradise on wheels . :- )

I have both Plymouths and Dodges, and I was very saddened by the demise of the Plymouth brand (and Oldsmobile, for that matter).

Its ironic that Mr. Norm, a DODGE dealer and tuner from the muscle car days, was the one to bring back the 'Cuda:

Not all Mopars depreciate. As a Mopar die-hard, I'm here to state that IMO the Caliber is an unfortunate piece of cr*p. It could have been a real import-killer but it got bean-countered to death with horrifically cheap interior parts, as well as things like the ridiculous idea of programming its CVT to "shift" like a regular transmission. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

Don't forget that it weighs the same as a base Tacoma, with equivalent gas mileage!

The Caliber has a CVT? You could have fooled me, I drove my rental almost 400 miles and was convinced it was just a sloppy automatic. IMO, would have been much nicer if they had just left it alone.

That's what EVERYONE thinks when they drive one, because that's what it feels like. DUMB decision. Dumb, dumb, dumb.

I couldn't agree more. Chrysler has always been "my" car company although I've never worked for them in any way. They still have a few really nice pieces of machinery (the 2009 Ram 1500, Cummins Ram, the Challenger and Charger, all the Jeeps except the Patriot and Compass, the always-overlooked Dodge Journey), but ever since Daimler sucked the life and creativity out of the company by driving off most of the talented senior engineering staff, there just hasn't been much hope. Cerberus didn't do any good either by bringing in Nardelli- a COMPLETE non-technical guy, to run the place. The last successful small car they had was the Neon, which was an import killer in spite of all its shortcomings. They had a chance to make it right with the Caliber, and they went the wrong direction.

GM has shot themselves in the foot but Chrysler has been raped by 2 of the last corporate takeovers. When they sold the company to Daimler some idiot forgot that the stock would be delisted from the S&P 500 as it was no longer a US corporation. This caused an artificial sell off and devaluation of the stock & capital reserves of the company that forced Daimler to cut all development budgets and start cost cutting everything. Then they started pumping out vehicles that were less than what they were capable of producing to save cost and increase profit.

Left alone and to their own devices years ago...I truly believe they would have the best US made vehicles in the market place and NOT be in financial trouble. So unlike General Motors Chrysler is a victim of hostile takeover and stupid short term management greed. Their story has nothing to do with the waste and bad vision of GM but now they get the same bum rap.

Really sad. Heartbreaking IMO.

Not according to most independent repair shop owners...the reality is that there are big differences...

Ba Bye Chrysler...you're going the way of Nash, Rambler, AMC, and StupidBaker...all junk....our American shame :-(

These repair shops aren't working on newer models either.

I agree, part of it was the USA goverments fault for letting it happen.

Chrysler would be the strongest of the big three if they would have been left alone.

Daimler was the death of mopar

Yes, I totally blame this problem on our own government, first for allowing these type of things to happen, and in addition trading w/China. Now they are our adversary, and we have to kiss their [censored] just to get along with them because they own us now.

CHINA helped GM stay afloat longer . They love the big boats over there . Wanna live the AMERICAN life .

Unlike here, where we seem to want to live the Chinese life.

When they were acquired by Daimler they got the rights to the M-B technology. The 300/Charger/Magnum/Challenger uses the platform from the old E-class with some minor modifications. Even the transmission is the same.

The LX platform uses rear suspension deived from Mercedes and the NAG transmission which I have been told Mercedes rapes them on liscensing fees for each unit used even though it is produced in Kokokomo. Dumbler charged back onto Chryslers books just about everything they could. It was one sided. Most say good ridance to Dumbler.
