It is not the monopoly that I defend them on. It is the scapegoating and lack of respect that ikes me. Fire them (the teachers) all you want, but don't blame them for banking crisis and housing bubble related financial problem.

Sure it is, its just selectively applied as your example of having more than 2 kids in China exemplifies. I have always said that government regulations CAUSE lower standards of living and corruption. Your post makes this very clear.

As government becomes more a part of your life, there is more and more incentive for officials to become corrupt, and for non-government people to offer bribes. This always happens.

You have a very low opinion of your fellow countrymen. If people are stirred up by class warrior/community organizers into a rage due to "inequity, the man, the rich, bad guy of the week", then that is how you get people's throat cut.

I'd rather have foreigners here actually working and creating wealth than protecting "domestic" lazy people that want handouts and do nothing but drain wealth from productive people.

To say that they are taking jobs or college slots from "domestics" is a completely static view of things. If foreigners are actually utilizing their "superior" work ethic, so much the better. The lazy people will then launch into class warfare and demand something for nothing.

This why the market, and not government handouts, improve society and handouts make it worse.

Correct. That is why it is bad to have them engineering people's consent (hate/envy is very powerful and the raw basis of all class warfare) and society (not good when based on class warfare/hate, lots of people tend to die). Do you want people like this running every aspect of your life? They do.

Correction: some schools are horrible, especially those with a high concentration of dumb and / or irresponsible parents.

Another important aspect is the family dynamics change that most family now have 2 working parents rather than 1, so the amount of parenting time is much reduced.

Also the education's expectation has been higher now, we no longer tolerate kids not graduating high school and most parents want their kids to go to college. This isn't the case 40 years ago.

The selectively applied is due to people migrating away from their hometown and the change from public sector (all government owned corp) to private sector employment, and threaten to cut your salary or bonus and take away your food purchase quota.

The enforcement used to be a scolding to your village leader and your reporting manager that someone under them have more than 1 kid, now with people moving around, you are no longer able to find, let alone scold at, parents with more than 1 kid. There are no more food quota, and people mostly work for private sector jobs that employers don't report or care about how many people have how many kids.

It also helps that most parents now only want 1 kid because it is expensive enough (even in China) to afford all the new "requirement" like education and health care.

Regulation on things like untreated electroplating waste water discharge into a creek is good. That it can be "waived" because the violators pay into a swiss bank account of the government official doesn't means that the regulation is unnecessary and should be eliminated.
