Chinese EV Thoughts? Curious on more technical info

Once we start building EV's in 'murica with all 'murican components, we'll all benefit.

Teslas sold in America are the most American cars you can buy. That was a key reason we bought the '18 Model 3 Mid Range.
For me, quality is #1 because I ain't gonna spend my hard earned cash on something that lives at the dealership. So I've purchased a few Lex RX450h SUVs.

Interestingly I have bought or owned numerous cars from the Fremont factory:
  1. '65 442. Wifey's father bought it new and we inherited it when he passed. 97K on the clock. GM Fremont plant.
  2. '93 Toyota 4WD Deluxe. 1st year of the PU being built at NUMMI, I believe.
  3. '18 Tesla Model 3 Mid Range.
  4. '24 Tesla Model 3 Performance.
Today Tesla employs 25K workers at Fremont and many more in support. At its peak, NUMMI employed about 6,500. It is the #1 American car factory in terms of production.

If you wanted quality IMHO you bought the wrong car. This guy pretty much mirrors my thoughts on Tesla, I don't agree with his take on the thermal management system being the be all and end all but it is a 2 year old review and most ev cars today have a multi channel heat pump system, the screen controlling almost function is just nonsense.

This past Sunday I was offered a 2018 model S with 62K one owner, accident free and always garaged and Tesla maintained car for 15K from an extended family member. The battery warranty is or just about done so a 20K+ battery and/or expensive drive motor replacement due to coolant ingress may well be in the cards. Hard pass!
Too bad because the S is not bad looking. it drives and performs well but just the thought of having to have the banker on speed dial when this thing goes wonky is off putting. If it was a MB S class gas engine car it would already be in my driveway.

"The Truth?" No. Not even close. More like ignorant. He obviously has never lived with the car. Like many who comment based on very little real world use.
I like this guy but he is dead wrong about the Model 3. You might notice my comment in his review... Did you notice "wait for the big boys", which used to be the mantra, is no longer used?
Why don't you ask some owners? Model 3 customer satisfaction is off the charts.
For example, here's a KBB review from owners.

My 2 Teslas have been the most trouble free, easy to own cars I have ever owned. And fun? Nutin' even close for the money. And made in America is important to me. This is not an opinion; it is my experience.

Ask some owners? I have driven them and scrutinized them in detail, IMO the man is not wrong. BYD is one of the big boys of the EV and they are poised to take the global market in not the too distant future as soon as they get into the US market. Glad I bought BYD car and battery stock. LOL

I prefer American made products. Each to his/her own.
Good luck on your stock investment.
TSLA has taken a beating this year, but I am still up over 100%.

Tesla is constantly cutting corners. Big reason I bought an Ev6 GT.

While I like American made stuff, not when it comes to vehicles. American made vehicles consistently perform in the bottom half of quality/reliability surveys, and this also mirrors my personal experience over 20 years of buying cars.

During international travel, I often see and drive vehicles that are unobtainium in the USA. Some are quite good too.

Generally, such vehicles are not sold here because they fall short in ways that are not immediately clear. Or they simply won't sell well at any price, due to size, range, ride or other qualities that annoy us.

The Seat Leon (VW Golf based) was a great car in Europe. With it's 1.2L turbo, and 2 cylinder mode for 'efficiency', a 10 second 0-60 and 38mpg in real world conditions. But I can tell you it's the wrong car for the open roads of the USA and especially Florida. Laggy, buzzy, and noisy, with inadequate AC.

Chinese EV's could be similar. Tesla makes EV's designed for the US market. It is no wonder people really love them, as they give us what we like.

Agreed not all the"American" cars are the best. That's why I have several Lexi and an older Tundra.
But when I can, I will always defer to American products. Again, a key reason I bought the '18 Model 3 was Tesla reopening the shuttered NUMMI plant. I support that.

And here I am with a 5.0 F150 that is about the nicest road trip vehicle I've ever driven. And a Jag F-Type that fills my need for top down motoring misbehavior, er, ah, fun.

And now they get to corners and get away with it. Lowering the standards does not build better cars.

US agency eases some self-driving safety rules, sending Tesla stock soaring - https://www.reuters.com/business/au...nt-hurdles-retain-reporting-rules-2025-04-24/
I'm mainly referring to them using inferior parts.

A friend of mine had an f150. Lemon lawed. One of the new ones. So...1 for 2? Doc had a Jag 5.0 too. So did another coworker. One cooked the engine. One is fine. So...2 for 3? Meh.

The Jag engine issues are well understood. 0W-20 and 18,000 mile OCI's does not work. 5W-40 and 5000 mile OCI's does work. Along with replacing the troublesome plastic cooling pipes.

As for F150's, the same applies. The 5.0 is known to be reliable when well maintained. The Powerboost hybrid twin turbo is simply asking for trouble, many of us know better than that. I expect no issues with my truck, just like the last 4. And good lord willing, time will tell.

The idea that the EV6 has been devoid of problems is incorrect. Even a quick search turns up known issues. Is it still the best choice among sporty EV's? Maybe. Looks like there is at least one unsubstantiated claim the 2025 M3p is 4 seconds per lap faster on open tracks. I will make this claim: The differences between the EV6 and new M3p are minor, variations on a theme. Choose the weapon that suits your needs best and enjoy. I'd truly love either of them.

Post pics!!

You know what I like, great power, and top down responsive motoring. I'm only at 420HP (soon to be 475) and mid 12's. Generally satisfying. Top speed is great though at north of 180.

American made Corolla definitely are more reliable than a Japanese made Nissan V6 with CVT. It is all about the company and their priorities.

BiL’s 2015 F150 has had zero issues. They ran a Saturn 20 years - gave it away running good - were pleased enough to buy a new Enclave a few months back …

I have used made in China stuff if it was cheap enough, but I have my limits. I believe I will not own a China made vehicle.
Heck, I use China made oil filters if they are less than $2, but more than that, no way. I have never bought any PGI oil filters that are made in China, no matter how good they are.

The f150 was new. Just junk. The Jag was used, so unsure on PM.
