Chevy HHR Transmission

I recently had a failure in the 1-2 shift solenoid on a Chevy HHR with 64k miles. My question is I was troubleshooting a noise and stopped the engine at 65mph then shifted to neutral let it coast a short way then restart the car and put in drive. This did cause a code to happen and the 1-2 shift solenoid failed about a month later. Could this have caused it?

The shift solenoid is just an electrically operated hydraulic valve...it's not connected to anything mechanically, so I doubt your little session could have damaged it.

The "A" solenoid (the 1-2) is a big problem on GM transmissions.Its usually the one to fail,if the TCC one does not fail...leaving the TCC engaged when coming to a stop.

Looks like they had to take the entire side of the trans off to replace it. I assume a lot of transmission fluid was lost and replaced?

Very doubtful. If your engine stalled on the highway you would have to do exactly what you did to get it running again. Even if you put it in Reverse the computer should have denied the shift and you would be fine.

Probably was just a bum part.

I have worked at many places where the old fluid ends up in a bucket and gets put back in to save $$. Gross!
