I'm currently in Dallas on a business trip, (moving in March) and rented a 2014 Sonic from Avis. I'm just blown away from the feel, lack of NVH from this car and performance. So far I'm averaging 37 MPG in the city, I never have to floor it to get on the highway, seems to have a low to mid-torque curve or maybe it's the turbo can't tell as it's super quiet. I'm really enjoying this car, I'm not sure it would work for me as it's way too small. I just peered into the back seat and you have to be mighty skinny to fit but overall this car is very impressive. If your looking at this segment i.e. Fit, Yaris, Versa, etc this car deserves a test drive.

Kudos to GM!

Im not sure Im as happy with the torque (not sure if what I had was a turbo or not), but I agree with the rest. Pretty good car.

I was surprised by the fact it had enough headroom for me....then after driving, I was impressed. Nice car!

Agreed! GM is doing a very good job.

I believe(I'd have to find the website), the the Sonic scored highest in it's catigory against it's competition. For refrerence, the FIT scored 4th in this group!

I'll have to find the website! I believe it was a video review

should have popped the hood to see if its the turbo model or not! I'm assuming its the turbo model because I've read the opposite with the 1.8l.

If you think the Sonic is good now, go rent the Aveo it replaced! The Aveo is a complete 180 from the Sonic - easily the WORST car I have piloted.

Seems like a great car, but like all others in its class the thing I dislike is that you can't completely disable the stability control without pulling a fuse.

I rented an Aveo in Phoenix druing a 2 week trip and drove it from Phoenix to LasVagas. I hated it! The worst highway vehicle I have driven that was new since some vehicles from the 60's & 70's. And the Aveo was uncomfortable around town with an uncomfortable interior as well.

I thought I was going to roll the one I drove going 25MPH on an entrance ramp (with a speed limit of 45). It had more body roll than my lifted Jeep ...

Gets blown around horribly. Of course, I also kept hitting the "hold" button causing it to start out in OD from stoplights.

The clutch pedal in the Sonic is very light and easy to work with. The shifter has some travel room when changing gears, but it is incredibly smooth! If you drive a Camaro back-to-back with a Sonic you will be amazed at how much easier the Sonic is to work with. Sonic is a home run.

....Apparently it does....

Is this a pretty wide spread issue? Very odd to see this now because my co-worker is actually dealing with this problem on his 2011 Cruze. He just mentioned it to me today.

Tremec gearboxes are NOT known for their 'butter smoothness' as far as shift 'quality' goes, BUT, the shifts are very 'positive'/firm, and they are VERY strong manual transmissions.

The Sonic uses cable shifters, correct??
That right there insulates the shift and makes it 'smoother', as compared to the DIRECT, internal rail action of a Tremec.
