You don't see to many vehicles roll over 500k so its cool, but its worth about $1k not what they are asking.

I guess if its a buy here pay here kind of lot they will sell it to someone for $50 or $100 a week.

Frame looks very rusty, that's the kind of truck you get for $1k and drive it until something major breaks.

My wife's friend bought a former pilot car...also a Ranger, though a 4 banger. IIRC, she has just over 260k on it now.

Rangers do run forever, especially the 2.5/5-speed combo.

Good tires on that Ranger too! Those alone are probably worth $400 or so installed. I wish I had mine installed with raised lettering on the outside

Probably not. 4.0L SOHCs aren't cheap. The trans isn't particularly cheap either. Lots of engines/transmissions would have totaled it out. The lowest price I have heard on a 5R trans rebuild is $1300, throwing in a reman would be over $2K. Figure $2K+ for a reman SOHC V6 too.

It's the updated SOHC, so no timing chain worries. 5R55E had all upgrades at that point. A pretty reliable combo actually. 500K highway miles isn't that big of a deal. An E-Series van did 1,700,000 highways miles on the original 5.4 and 4R100. The trans went out first.

I have seen a lot of high mile Explorers and Rangers, but not so many past 400K. This is a cool find. 350K miles isn't particularly unusual for these, but over 500K is something. Just last week a used car dealer I like to peruse (I know the owner) sold an Explorer Sport with 345K miles in about four days from fresh from the auction to sold. The owner of the car lot drove it from the auction to the lot. $1500 took it. No major issues with it mechanically, just 345K miles of wear and tear. I'd bet that one got a new trans at some point, but if it had the timing chain update done, the engine may have very well been original. SOHC 4.0s wear very well if the timing chain issue is addressed ('03 and older). I also saw a '10 Ranger on CL not too long ago with somewhere around 360K miles, but it was an I4/manual.

$6K for it is crazy though. I'd pay $1500 tops for that truck, though it does look nice. Seats look original to me...notice the major wrinkle in the bottom cushion. It probably is a legit original engine/trans/interior truck, but at those miles it will be loose and worn. I'd anticipate ball joints, seats (foam is probably broken down), and trans if original.

Still, it's a testament to how well these trucks were built. Ford had a lot of time to work out issues on the Ranger, and they did. Frankly, I don't have the time or money for an unreliable vehicle, this is my DD of choice for a reason.

Duratec I4 Rangers get over 30 MPG routinely with the manual trans. It is the MPG king with pickups. With the V6...4.6L F-150 MPG.

No kidding. From 1994 until they retired it a couple years ago it has been pretty much the same. I had a 1995 Mazda B4000 and it was basically the same truck as the 2006 in this thread. And that 2006 is basically the same as the 2011, the last year they made them.

I've seen lots of Rangers and B-series around 300,000. Enough that it is not a fluke. Usually 3.0 Vulcans. That's the first 4.0 I have witnessed with 500,000+ though.

They have to be huffing glue if they think that a half million mile Ranger is worth $6,000. I can get one with 400,000 less for that price.

Honest questsion here......do they really get that good of MPG's? And is that doing 55mph? Do you know what it is doing 75mph? I had the older LIMA engine with 5spd and only got 23mpg avg

Yup. The duratec 2.3 was very efficient.

You do need to drive it easy to do so.

And no timing belt to snap like the lima!

My 06 2.3/Duratec 5spd got 32mpg from KC to Fort Smith going 65-70mph.. maybe faster. The trick was the bed in the bed.. can't remember if it was full or a twin. Just of been perfect aerodynamics. Great truck too bad couldn't get a 4 door in the US. The 2.3L would of had plenty of power even in it.

Yeah, I'd be interested in it but not at $5995. More like 1-1.2k max. Obviously highway miles. If it was maintained very religiously, it could still have the original driveline.

Yes, lots of owners have reported MPG above 30 hwy in the 2.3 Duratec/manual/reg cab configuration. I have heard 30-32 MPG from countless owners of these trucks. Not sure what speed they got those numbers at though. Obviously you won't get that number hammering on it, but basically no other mass produced gas engine pickup can break 30 MPG at all.

My 2001 2.5L Lima engine Ranger hit 28 MPG twice on trips between NC and AL doing 65-75 MPH most of the way. In normal mixed driving it was low 20s (20-24 MPG). Even with retrofitted EFI and dual spark plugs, the Lima still dated back to the days of the Pinto. The Duratec is a whole different animal being a modern DOHC, more efficient with more power, allowing it to more easily achieve high MPG.

My 2002 3.0 has slightly passed 21 MPG on a couple long trips where speed didn't exceed 70-75 MPH much. Worst tank was slightly over 11 MPG on E85, beating on it around town with clogging pre cats (didn't know that was the problem at the time).

$1000-$1500 truck at best.

The biggest selling point of that truck is owning with 500k+ miles NOTHING else.
