03 Ford E350 500K miles with low compression??

DO A LEAKDOWN. Where are you losing compression?

The 2Vs still use a very similar timing setup to the 3Vs and the chains and chain guides are still what take most of these off the road.

You may just find severely stretched chains and guides worn through the metal. It happens. At that mileage anything is possible

How's this going to address low compression?

My mechanic(trusted for 2 years) thinks its BS and has suspicions that the previous shop was trying to take advantage of the 75yo owner??? 🤷‍♂️ If it turns out that way i'm going to call that shop and the previous owner and have some SERIOUS talks with them!!

Also neither one of us have driven the van to see how it runs do to fuel pump dead and waiting on new one from Amazon. When I bought it in December it was all good, idled for 1 hour and no noises?? She ran fine??

Still, you only need a decent battery or power supply and starter to check compression. You don't need to drive it and you don't need a functioning fuel pump

Heck, you don't need ANY of that for a leakdown....just a compressor

True and I did let him know to do that as well just to be safe  (y) But winter storm in DFW has him shut down until tomorrow
so all this is "pending"

Silly TX people think snow is a reason to close ;) Hilarious!

In all seriousness since another shop claimed 3 and 4 were suspect, I'd at least check those TWO. On a truck that's easy 'cause they're second from the front. On a van.....maybe it'd be better if it had been 7 and 8 what with the doghouse and all.....

It's also possible your mechanic can just do a power balance test if he's got the means

On to a lighter less serious point, if you feel its not worth it, a donation to the Hickok45 compound would at least leave you knowing its getting used.

I wonder if the gray oil was from the washer fluid being mixed in, and then being boiled off once the engine got up to temp.

Compression test and a leakdown test would be a good idea, but if you just want it for a shed, I'd check the plugs and just drive it home.
