cheap tires for Camry

Sometime in the not too distant future I need to put new shoes on my Camry. Since it is just my to-and-from the city car at this point I am going cheap. Walmart has Armstrong Blu-Trac PC all-season and Crossmax CT-1 all-season tires for around $64 each. I am not expecting quality out of either but has anyone run either of these before? Did they make it 30k miles? Etc.

Any other cheap suggestions are appreciated.

There are obvious reasons to purchase cheap tires but I have never given it a look. It's pretty interesting.
I put Contintal tires on my 03 Focus and my 08 Corolla. I have to be at work rain or snow. I end up mounting not so cheap tires for my safety.
Nevertheless economic treads are good reads.

I run Solars on my Camry. Currently on 3rd set. These have about 50K on them right now and still have good tread. Walmart is where I get them.

Walmart has the best deals on tires and batteries. I always get tires from Walmart, never had a problem. I order online. Fist I research the name of the tire. Lots of wacky names out there. Some are actually owned by Michelin, Pirelli, Cooper, etc. Dig deeper and you will find the wacky company was going under, and the big boys scooped them up. Sent teams of Q&A to manufacturing sites globally to oversee production. So far, so good. Never had a failure. Been doing it for years. When they arrive, I just take them to a local tire shop for installation.

I just went to Discount Tire and picked up their Arizonian brand tires, which I think are made by Cooper Tire. These are fot my Cavalier which I'm hoping to limp along a little while longer until I find something nicer.

I have had the Discount Tire "Road Hugger" house brand on my TL for about a year and a half and about 24k tires. I did hit a massive pothole that tore the sidewall on one tire about 7k miles ago and got that replaced out the "Certificates" (that I normally wouldn't have purchased; got lucky as they offered a deal on it when I got TMPS installed as well).

The tires have been good otherwise though I haven't checked how much tread has worn.

Kuhmo lx platinum at Walmart online good budget tire I'm on my second set cheap and get about 40k with paying no attention a couple of rotations. Removed at 44k on my daughters college car only because winter was coming probably could of squeezed a few more miles out of them picture attached

Tires in the USA normally has harder wear compounds but cost more. What I found, base on the cost of mounting and balancing, cheap tires are actuallu more expensive since it wear out faster, not as grippy, and often noisy. Typically, the mounting and balancing cost ~$60-100. I often go with midgrade like Firestone or Hankook Tires, good value. I avoid any chinese tires because they grip less than worn premium tires.

For premium tires, Goodyear often gives the best price/performance over Michelin, Bridgestone, or Continental.

I'll stick with the cheapos. The high end tires will just dry rot before I use up the tread. The farthest commute for my cars is 40 miles round trip. I have tires on my CRV starting to dry rot a bit ( I'm retired now so I really don't use it much) Plenty of meat on the tires, but they were dirt cheap from Walmart. So, I just try to spray them with that silicone tire shine stuff to cut back on the UV light. Same with my wheel barrow tires, spray them up too. They dry rot FAST. Those are some really garbage tires. Got to the point where I put tubes in them,,, ,or they start losing air over 1 summer.

Tube? that is very interesting. Yeah...,if we drive not so much, and has no garage, cheap fast wears tires should be fine. My summer tires typically last 4 years, with my 12k miles annual driving. The all seasons tires for snowy winter, lasts very long since I installed only from late Dec-Early March, they are 11y old and still no crack/dry rot. It is still legal to be driven in Austria with 4mm mininum depth.

Yes, when the tubeless wheel barrow tire starts leaking due to some dry rot, I just buy some cheap tubes and stuff them inside the tire. The tire is still good, why throw it out ? I get years out of wheel barrow tires now..Funny, one is so dry rotted, it wobbles as you roll it. But, still holds air and the load !!!!!

You can buy premium model used tires for that. It's my latest obsession of cheapness.

Ebay, united tires, champ tires, etc.

With united, you can reach out by chat to inquire regarding date code and repairs. From there, watch the specific tires you want on ebay and wait to get a price drop alert. They rotate discounts through their inventory.

Then I pull wheels and take them to the local used tire shop that mounts and balances for $15 per.

I recently did a full set of Michelin Defender 2 235/55r20 with new TPMS sensors, programmed to car myself, <$450 mounted, all within 1/32" of treadwear from new, and that's a premiumish size/tire.

Man I'm cheap. The amount of hassle I go through to save $2.


EDIT: hey look...

I'd add a bunch of these (at United Tires) to my ebay watch list and wait for some <$65 alerts. FWIW, the X-Tour is the same as the Defender, but private labeled for Costco. (I happen to have 3 X-Tours and 1 Defender on my commuter.)

Upgraded from 205/65/15 to 215/55/17, got the set of wheels & tires for $400. They were Michelin Defender 2 with <6 month usage and barely any tread.

I think Kumho or Hankook makes the Road Hugger/Mojave line. Either Sailun or Omni Tire makes the Sentury line.

I’ve been surprised with the Sailuns that came on a car used as a cab.

How was the ride quality affected? Is the ride still good on the 17's?

At most it's like a 5-10% fuel economy decrease, ride is a bit harsher but it feels more planted/grippier with the 215s.

I'd figured it was better to keep the 17s since they were like new, and sell the 15s with 20-30k mileage left(Michelin Defender). I'd moved states so didn't want to spend more down the line.

Since when are the Walmart standard Douglas line not an all weather tire?!?

I got these on a 1985 MB 190D I bought in CA. Put them on at the Walmart in Henderson, NV. Drove back to NJ. Have been pleased ever since.

Zenna tires were highly recommended for a cheaper tire. Tire shop said they would choose those over some more expensive brands they carry as an all season. I need to buy a set for the kids vehicle before the snow flies, think I'll be trying those out.
