I am looking to purchase a set of 4 tires for my Equinox. The size is 235/65/16. I am looking for the cheapest set I can buy without sacrificing safety.

I have a set of Hankook 727's on my civic, I feel very well planted on the road at 75mph in a rain storm, and the only way my civic doesn't make it though the snow is if it is too high for the car to clear and gets hung up. They are the best bang for your buck according to Tire rack, right now they are 102 bucks a piece in your size, only a couple other tires are cheaper in your size, and it comes with a 50 dollar MIR.

I was just going to recommend the H727, too.

I have them on my Sonata. I've probably got about 10k miles on them. So far I'm really pleased.

Here are a couple threads I made about them:

I bought mine from Discount Tire Direct and had them mounted locally. I bought them during a sale and rebate period, so after mounting I only paid $380 total.

The H727 in your size are $114 each from DTD. DTD usually has lower prices than Tire Rack, since DTD has free shipping. At least, that's how it's always been for me.

Wow! Thanks for all the info. I was considering the h727s given the good reviews I have read. I currently have Cooper CS4s and the wear on them were alright at best (40k out of the 80k warranty.)

There is a local place in Mass that includes free mounting and a free front end alignment with purchase. They are selling the tires for 138 but with all the freebies tagged on it would be even. My car is due for inspection in June so I am going to see if I can squeak by and plan on getting them sometime when I get the money together.

Thanks!!

Any tire that is round and holds air will be just fine. The only thing that would make a tire dangerous is not maintaining proper alignment and inflation pressure.

That was a good laugh... you were joking right?

Given your location I would call Town Fair Tire, Sullivan Tire and Walmart and see what they offer at low end.

These chains do not sell "unsafe" tires irrelevant to country of origin.

The only junk low end tires I have encountered and I have bought, were made in the USA called Remington. Absolute junk. I have purchased tires made in Brazil, Mexico, China, Thailand and Eastern Europe and they have been okay. Not quite a mid grade tire but okay majority of the time.

I guess when I meant "unsafe" I meant cheap quality tires that could lead to issues with hydroplaning/snow traction etc. I am going to make the calls like you said. Major chains cannot afford to sell low end tires as it ulimately be on their reputation. Thanks for the info!
