Changing cell number when moving to a new state

I also have a 518 area code and will never drop it no matter where I live. I just love the sound of 518, and there's no reason to change it. Also a lot of Upstate New Yorkers will recognize 212 area codes- as others have said it's an exclusive status symbol now and it cost a lot to get one because you essentially have to buy it off of someone else who has one. It's a mark of pride for restaurants/businesses that have one as well for the same reason, it indicates (correctly or not) that the business has been around a long time.

We actually somewhat recently got another area code here, 838. I have yet to see anybody who has one of them and we'll forever be referring to the capital region as "the five one eight"

As long as it is not international I'm not going to change mine ever. What is the point really? People are working from all over the place and live all over the place, and most calls are spam so you need to text someone before you call these days unless you know the person.

Whenever I see a far out of state number in a Craigslist or Facebook ad, I first think scammer or spammer.
Ya know, you're right, I think the same thing.

Then again, I think most ads on CL are spam or somehow crooked anyhow.

Most spam calls I get these days are from my area code, or international numbers. Some out of state but the majority are spoofing local area codes. Or NYC, if I see a 212 one I ignore it as it's usually the mandarin "chinese embassy" one

Anyone remember when the porn sites were a 900 number? No I didn't call them! But my number has started with 900 since forever.

In the beginning many friends could not call me because their phone had a 900 block on it.

I moved from NY to Delaware. My cell is still a 518 area code. I will forever be known as a New Yorker until I get a local number. Yet my phone is listed for many accounts using 2FA. A pain to even remember all the places I listed my cell number. Seems I should have two phones for a month with one old and one new.
I switched about a year ago from my old number to my new location area code.

Kept track of all my two factor authorizations for about a month or two, switched the phone then went down the list and changed the numbers. Verified using email.

The phone company will also put forwarding and/or notification on your old number for awhile.

If you are serious about wanting a local number, it's worth the effort.
