Changed my 2022 Maverick order

the entire country of australia would feel insulted and burn down their local ford dealer.

non-starter name for sure
Yeah, but it's pretty common to use different names in different markets. They could call it something else there, and probably only the "bogans" or whatever would care anyway. Maverick works well enough though. Ford really mostly used it for rebadged Nissan SUVs and rebadged Escapes in Europe and Asia, so it's not that crazy of a choice for this vehicle.

Dumb name to bring back up for a "truck". If they wanted to do that ,they should have gone with Courier. Bought a new 1980 model.
When I was in my pre-teen years, I lived 2 blocks from a Ford Dealer. I remember the Courier fondly. They had several rows of them on the lot in back. Sold a lot to parts and pizza delivery drivers. I recall snagging Courier and Cortina brochures and looking at them for hours. Later in life when I saw my first Maverick Grabber on the lot I knew I would get one. Two years later and I bought one. I think only folks over 50 y.o. will even remember what a Maverick was, a mundane transportation device that was cheap and disposable.

I agree except the name is horiffic.
Mavericks were the pinnacle of mid seventies mediocrity, I mean just junk.
Ford must have saved a pretty penny in the marketing budget with the group that picked that name.
I think it works better as a truck name than a compact car name. I don't think many buyers under 50 remember the Maverick.
As an old guy I do cringe at name revivals. Like the Mustang MACH- E applied to a CUV.

Courier brings a negative up in me. I drove a Courier on a flat highway in Kansas and got 14mpg.

The original Ford Maverick is so long gone few buyers of these will remember it. The name Maverick on it's own standing is pretty cool if you forget the old one. And the long promoted sequel "Top Gun Maverick" will be released about the same time Ford actually has these stacked on the lot. Clever marketing actually.
