Yesterday I changed the order on the Maverick, Due to the bean counters at Ford not including manual shift capability, on the 8-speed automatic. I could not see myself driving a vehicle with no control over 8 forward speeds for several years. 6th gear is the 1:1 ratio.

I switched to the Hybrid. It is saving me $4000 over the loaded 2 Liter turbo, AWD and tow package. IMW It is better to have control over the 1 speed eCVT with my foot. When 'the powers that be" get their way with creating high fuel prices to discourage fuel use, I will probably be happy for 40ish MPG. If I don't like it I can walk away or buy it and flip it. Shouldn't be to hard. Also changed my color to Cactus Gray. Was able to see a Cyber Orange and it caused Retina Burn. With the money saved I ordered the soft folding Tonneau Cover, smoke tint hood protector and the Co-Pilot 360 upgrade.

NEVER any CVT's in my ownership + the only slush boxes were older classics i drove daily, surely could not pass a 20 thou 72 cutlass hardtop that still looked NEW in the late 90's, a great car thats still around as i sold it locally, a set of Budnick Famosa wheels really made it POP!!

a cheeper little pickup is a good idea for many, BUT a simple manual tranny with any decent 4 banger + a 6' box + anyone that gets snow better leave it parked without 4WD or even todays watered down AWD systems IMO. i miss my simple 08 colorado 4 banger 5 spd manual + 4 wd that got bit by a tree!! engine was a bit weak though!

I agree except the name is horiffic.
Mavericks were the pinnacle of mid seventies mediocrity, I mean just junk.
Ford must have saved a pretty penny in the marketing budget with the group that picked that name.
I owned a Maverick Grabber with the torquey 250 c.i. straight six. Would burn rubber forever with no weight on the rear tires. Not a horrible car but didn't shine in any area. Had a great AM radio with a genuine 6x9 speaker in the dash that sounded great, that would pick up all the cool stations at night. WLS KAAY WWWE KXOK WHB

FWD+Winter tires > AWD + stock tires. Esp. braking and turning.

Yeah my brother had a 72 Maverick with a lil warmed-over 302 c4 auto car, nothing fancy or fast but for a high school car,he never lost any 1/4 mile races 😂

Plus I am retired, rarely do I need to be anywhere of great importance. Plus I know how to drive in the snow, lived in the country for my first 45 years, where roads are not scraped and salted to the pavement. It can actually be fun. My 1991 Toyota Xtra Cab was a blast hanging the rear out on packed snow, then counter steering to catch the slide. Keep in mind these are deserted country roads.

I have to admit that I like the Maverick. I think Ford has done a good job of filling a market gap while GM  has been left standing there with a blank look on their faces
Same here. I'm not really in the market and I've got a chunk of GM Card rebate cash that's sitting there waiting to be used, but I keep going back to Ford's website and pricing out a Maverick...

Congratulations on your new truck, and I hope you'll enjoy it when you get it. Did you, by any chance, test drive one of these hybrid trucks? Is it any fun to drive with the eCVT transmission?

I think that high fuel prices will be the straw that breaks the camel's back. It's not bad enough that we have the messed-up economy that we do. Overpriced crappy gasoline is the last thing we need.

Over priced gasoline will suck an economy dry.

I was going to drive a hybrid Escape but none on my dealers lot. They have very few new vehicles. Most sell before or when they hit their lot. I did ride in a Ford Hybrid for about 20 miles once, it was a Fusion Hybrid. Seemed OK. No rubber band effect that I noticed or remembered. The dealer is supposed to get a demo unit in mid-late August. Didn't know if it was a Hybrid or not.

I have no use for paddle shifters or + - buttons on an automatic. To me they're just dumb & useless.
I kinda liked it on my truck, it had a nasty tendancy to unlock the TC and then stay in a too-tall gear. I'd kick it down and it'd lock up or I could use engine braking.
