Hey guys I just recently changed the fuel filter in my 95 Jeep Grand Cherokee with the 5.2 and found out it was the original filter with 148k on it. The tank side of the filter gas coming out of the filter was nasty black fuel the other side was clear fuel. I have noticed a power improvement and the engine is alot more responsive hope fully I will see an improvement in gas mileage.
I am really intersted in how the inside of the tank looks. I have no running problems but I will be changing the filter out again the the spring.
The fuel additives will now be able to work on the injectors instead of the dirt in the filter.

Yes I'm really interested in what kind of gunk there is in a fuel tank and how PEA cleaner acts on it.

I've changed my fuel filter at the 30k and 60k mark. I am currently at 70k.

After the 60k change, I began to use PEA cleaner. Wondering if I've filled up the fuel filter prematurely.

I will say though that my injectors and cylinders were clearly cleaned by the PEA cleaner as my performance and mpg improved dramatically.

I pulled the tank in my 1993 Suburban in about 2004 to replace the [censored] poor GM fuel pump. The tank was pristine inside. My hands were dirty the tank was clean inside.

Now if you let a vehicle sit a year or two then all bets would be off. I am sure there will be some [censored] gas in areas flooded by Sandy.

In my one experience with a vehicle with a known fuel contamination issue (silt) on which the fuel tank was dropped and examined, multiple replacement fuel filters were filthy, the fuel socks on the fuel pump housing were filthy, the fine mesh fuel screen baskets inside the injectors were partially plugged, but the inside of the fuel tank itself was spotlessly clean.

So is mine, I hate that. Just like the lubed for life ball joints, tie rod ends etc. Dont like that either.

Replaced the one in my Mazda probably too often. Just replaced one in a Civic w/ 142k miles - no difference at all in driveability. My Vue has one in the tank and I'm glad - this way I won't be tempted to change it for no reason.

Maybe its a 4cyl thing - but I've never noticed one single difference in changing the fuel filter.
