Champ PH2835XL
Ran 5263 miles on a 2022 Ford Escape 1.5L Ecoboost
5w20 Castrol Magnatec came out and the same exact went back in with another Champ XL.

Filter looked good, no issues found other then a little excess glue. It did the job.

Sorry for the late bump. Given the specs and construction of these filters, are these arguably the "best value" in the <$5 category?

Not showing efficiency rating but construction wise they look good.

That's just it... If they were that great why not put it on the box or website? The link you posted says they stated 99%@20 Microns but I would have to see something in actual writing. You know when something is in writing it has a different meaning. Not just email but on the box.

I'm going to hold my comments back b/c they are missing some information pdf's on the efficiencies for the common man to decide if they are "the best value under $5".

That's not correct according to their website. You see where it says:

Oil Filters

All Champ oil filters use filtration media engineered with a variety of natural and synthetic fibers to provide up to 98% efficiency while offering optimum capacity and flow restriction.

Any 1 of their filters are no better than 98% efficiency. Seems to fly in the face of what they are saying to people through email.

Every one of those Champ XLs I see always looks perfect.

Yeah I was going to post that for USA made filters, excluding full synthetic with wire backing.. Champ is the king for USA made IMO with the XL as they keep the QC at a regular excellent level .

I Emailed Champ labs about LP2017XL & said it's 98% @ 20 for the XL. Here's the kicker though... I'm 95% sure it's the exact same Fram Tough Guard filter they claim to be 99% @20. I'm going to ask them if it's the same & if so they'll have some explaining to do.

I'm pretty sure the Tough Guard doesn't have metal end caps like the Champ XL does.

Don't think they are the same ... the Tough Guard is still made by Fram, not Champion Labs.

That may be the case for some but not in this case. Have a peek below & you'll get an idea of what I've been seeing. Short of ordering a Champ XL & TG to compare side by side this is what I have seen. I'm going to send first brands and email & ask them how many pleats the Champ has to compare to TG. I doubt they'll confirm if they're the same so trying to do what I can short of ordering.

EDIT: Just called & they're going to get with engineering about any differences between the two BUT the guy on the phone stated "We produce for 40+ different brands & they're all mostly the same."

^^^ When it comes to cartridge filters, it seems there's a bit more rebranding going on, and also cartridge filter's country of manufacture seems to be all over the place compared to the spin-on line of the same brand/model.

Right, Some of the China made Fram filters changed over to Champ b/c of China Shut down. And to add to my prior message. When I emailed champ a few weeks ago both emails coming from the same place stated that Champ was 98%@20 While the Fram TG was 99%@20. I told the fella today on the phone that if what he's saying is true about them most likely being similar he agreed that he needed to check with the engineering dept. I said if they're the same then it would be apparent that it's marketing & one of them can't be right.
