I'm not being super critical, but why are we censoring the word cr ap on here? Seriously?

I've wanted to tell folks that some things are cr@py and that there are better alternatives, but I don't want to cheat the system like I just did.

Usually, when this happens, I just omit the ENTIRE post and move on. If I can't say what I really want to say, I just skip it. I think it is more counter productive than productive.

It's not like censoring this word is going to make the site more work safe or better for your children's eyes. I think it is just silly and crossing the line between decency and being flat out prude.

If this is the route you guys take, go ahead and get rid of this emoticon because I believe it resembles and moves like a sexual object so I find it offensive. YES, I believe that my previous statement is just as flat out silly and prude as censoring the above said word.

Anyone else want to chime in?

I agree. There are some silly words currently in the censor dictionary. It's irritating at times, but I guess I just put up with it.

Guess they are bending over backward to not offend. I don't get offended by curse words though. I do get offended by other stuff, but I would not be on an internet forum if I minded getting offended too much...

its suppose to be a family oriented site, but honestly how much of a family cares about motor oil and filters? really its just men who visit. almost no kids or womens.

sence its nearly all men we should be able to loosen up our belts and let the gut hang out a bit without worrying about upsetting someone.

Let met start by saying in person, i curse like theres no tomorrow.

Theres a time and a place, a public message board is not the place. Do i think the filter may be a bit over sensitive, yes, but rules are rules and we must abide by them. If you don't posting without using crude language like [censored], then i think theres bigger issues to deal with.

I actually like the fact that bitog is a bit more strict than other message boards i visit, it seems classier and more mature, without punk kids arguing and using inappropriate language.

I tend to agree with you spOILED. Instead of worrying about a few off color words more attention could be paid to the handful of silly and irresponsible posters that show up in almost every topic.

The difference is that UBB (the software that this board uses) simply has an automated filter. However, if it's not on the list, anyone can say it. That means anyone can say anything and it takes a human to decipher whether a post is valid or pointless.

I'm almost to the point of petitioning for the right to use the word cr ap. Mainly, because it can easily be used to describe many things like Synlube.

Seems like some can get away with murder, so to speak, about the no sEx, religion or politics rule.

Let's try it out:
