my service engine light comes on when I am driving on the freeway at freeway speeds but it goes off at the light within a minute when I am off the freeway, why?
I had a car like that once. It turned out to be one of the Fuel Injectors was partially clogged. But no code will tell you that. In fact there was no code, just the CEL coming on and off.
Why would you want something with an iffy transmission and what would possess you to purchase yet something else to throw money (not to mention gallons of snake-oil) at.
You need to prioritize what you are trying to accomplish.....dependable transportation, an endless money pit, or something that looks fairly presentable? By my count you are one out of three so far.
If I remember right, code 12 will flash 3 times first, and then any stored codes will flash 3 times. There might also be a 12 in between multiple codes.

There was such a beast? I thought by '93 the Century was one trim level.

Anyone who wants to do a straight trade for your vehicle thinks you have something better. That's the first sign the deal isn't worth pursuing.
