Both Toyota 0W20 and Mobil 1 0W40 oils is made by XOM.

You are using thicker oil than spec that why engine temp is higher. You should use Toyota 0W20 only, no need to mix with Mobil 1 0W40.

This is the whole purpose of this CATERHAM BLEND. To run a oil little heavyer then 0w20 , still thin enough with a high VI, with good protection for the engine.

Im not worried about warranty stuff, Im free to experament. That is why we are here otherwise we are just "sheep following the pack". If we make sound decision mechanically wise, its ok to experiment.

Your mixed is in the xW30 range, not thick xW20.

I do mixing too to get thinner oil than E430 spec'ed. I mixed 5 quarts Mobil 1 0W20 with 2 quarts 0W40 plus 6-7 oz VSOT, the result is a thin xW30 and the spec oil is Mobil 1 0W40.

Not too say what you are doing is wrong but Caterham's main premise is "thin as possible, thick as necessary". This is the reason for blending high VI oils, to keep it thin as possible, while still maintaining a high enough HTHS to provide protection. Where your car originally specs 5w20 and your blend is a 0w30 you have sort of reversed the thin as possible part. In my cars that spec 5w30 I am trying to run a thinner oil than spec while still maintaining protection.

Do you feel that the 0w20 won't provide enough protection?

Oh and I do agree with the experimentation thing, it is your car and $, you should feel free to do what you want with it!

I don't see any viscosity numbers in your oil analysis. Did the lab provide any numbers on the 60 / 40 blend of Toyota 0W-20 + Mobil 1 0W-40?

9.3 is right on the bubble between a 20 and 30 weight. Goldie Locks would call it a 25-weight oil.

The blend was mixed with "SM"oil. My next blend will be Toyota 0W20 SN and Mobil 0W40 SM. I have also done a virgin UOA allready of the new blend with Toyota 0W20 SN.
