Yeah lets put 30 pound exhaust treatment devices on an average chain saw. Then every new saw will have to be operated by 2 people.
I can't wait till jets and turbines get a cat, they may need a kerosene particulate filter like diesel trucks do. Maybe SCR too boot, oh and why not a EGR as well. How many lawn mowers will it take to pollute as much as one average jet engine? Maybe 1 million?

Please don't give anybody any ideas :)

Stihl has been doing exactly that since 1988. The EPA is also already setting emissions standards for commercial jet aircraft, NOx emissions being a big one.

I think that the EPA is creating pollution just talking about it. How did the world ever survive without them. The market should offer good options and that is what we buy. The way it is going all cars and trucks will be electric anyway and then they will say the power plants make too much polution and shut them down. We will all be dragging our bicycles out to ride again. Rant Over!

If a 15 year old thread is added to there is a question or some input. How many NEW threads ask the same question? Which is the best oil? Best filter? Or my favorite is I bought this engine and it is sludged up, which oil will clean up the sludge.

The new saws run so lean they barely start when hot. Pretty bad when the first things you need to do with a chain saw is close the spark plug gap and richen up the fuel. So get a fuel adjusting tool too!

Add to that lean condition a little bit of gunk from E10 fuel sitting in the carb so the average Joe Homeowner gets frustrated and trashes it and buys a new one. That's not great for the environment, either.

Especially when the new one is worse than the old one!

Got a one year old $500 snow blower in 2019 for $150, because of that exact issue. They left gas in the unit and put it away for the summer. Their loss my gain.

It didn't. Haven't you seen all the articles and news stories about climate change? Or about acid rain? Or particulate pollution? Smog? Those are due directly to fossil fuel use- gas, diesel, natural gas and coal.

Or for non-fossil fuel issues, there's always the ozone hole/CFCs.

The EPA is there to try to mitigate those things, because people won't do it on their own, and have to be forced to do so, even when it's in their best interests. The Tragedy of the Commons is real, and this is why things like the EPA and related legislation have been passed.
