Both are on sale right now. I did a search and found many different threads which seem to not come to any conclusions. So let me know your thoughts on which one you would choose.

I would say EDGE EP is a better long drain oil than Valvoline EP based on the available information provided by Castrol on some of the industry standard tests.

For cleaning piston deposits and keeping rings clean, VRP.

I just love those gold colored Castrol Edge bottles. I'd choose it just because they look fantastic sitting on the shelf waiting to be poured into my engine. Valvoline has chosen to use a greyish silver colored jug and we all know that gold is the more valuable element.

So there you go,,, get the Castrol.

So you think this will be the definitive thread with that elusive conclusion? There's a reason for that, and not a whole lot has changed since those "many different threads" you mentioned.

both Valvoline EP and Castrol edge EP are very good oils,Castrol for the win when using longer OCI, and perhaps Valvoline for their add pac,,,just flip a coin on which one is better with a 5k change.

Castrol GTX full synthetic, 5000 oci or 6 months, whichever comes first. Otherwise, if you are going to do the forever oci thing, use the Castrol Edge EP, gold bottle and change every 10,000 miles max or 1 year, whatever comes first. Use a premium filter. There is my opinion.

My question was which product family would you choose if it came down to Castrol or Valvoline?

I noticed Castrol has a good following here with many stating it has a high quality base stock. As for Valvoline I only see posts about R&P. Not too many on their other oils.
