Hi guys,

I was looking for another brand for my next oil change for my cadillac cts with gm 4718m spec and I know that Costco sells Castrol Syntec 6x1liter for 38$ 5w30.

I was wondering first, is it a good oil that could handle the 11k miles OCI? M1 does but wondering about castrol.

Secondo, I was looking through the products data sheet and I was looking at the syntec 0w30 with the visc at 100=12.1. Almost a 40 weight and thats interesting since my car use oil a little bit 1 qt per 6000-7000kms with m1 5w30. I dont have a warranty anymore so I could use any kind of oil I'd like but since I dont know much about whats happening in an engine if the wrong oil is in use, I don't want to mess up my engine. I need my car for another 100k miles and I have now 118k miles.

the 0w30 is not gm 4718m specs. When I read on the USA web sites, none of the oil is 4718m specs (maybe I'm wrong, thats why I'm posting this here) but it was updates in 2009. Funny thing is: Canada web pages, the 5w30 syntec, the 10w30 syntec and the 5w50 syntec meets gm 4718m spec. How come the 5w50 meets the spec and not the 0w30? I'm so confused!

hehehe, Castrol got me before i was educated by the senior member on bitog. Castrol is using the word "exceed", it is a different than "approved" !! GM website does not list the oil.
" Exceeds European ACEA: A1, A5, B1, B5, Corvette GM 4718M, GM 6094M, Ford WSS M2C929-A and all requirements of ILSAC GF-4 for API Certified Gasoline Engine Oils and meets Energy Conserving Standards."
check their 5w-40 grade, it use the word "approved" for porsche...

I would trust the 0w30 for 11K intervals, possibly not 5w30/10w30 versions, but I dont have anything to base this on, it would probably be fine. It would depend how it does in your motor, and how the car treats the oil.

COSTCO is a great place to buy it though! The price is great.

The ONLY Castrol Syntec oil that is 4718M CERTIFIED is the '4718M' synthetic oil sold at GM dealerships.

All other syntecs are NOT. GC may be a great oil for this application, BUT ITS NOT CERTIFIED!
