Ok, so Castrol Syntec Blend says it's good for short trips and harsh conditions.. Castrol GTX claims it offers sludge protection... So what's the difference? Obviously one is a blend, the other isn't, but is there a gain to be had by using one over the other? Is the Castrol blend going to protect better? MARKETING!!! UUUUUUUGHHH!!!!

About $1 at my Wal-Mart.

1.00 diff at my walmart as well, but what about from a formula stanpoint? It's like they want you to think that Castrol GTX won't protect for trip trips as well as their blend will.

You mean a $1.00 difference between the 5 quart jugs? If that were the case, I'd get the blend. You can bet that the price difference at your local auto parts store will be much wider.

Its about $6 difference for the 5qt jug at our Wal-Mart.

I've run and run used oil analysis on both. More than once. I'd go with the GTX.

Are the additive packages similar?

That's just it, I don't get it. Look no further than the top of this web page at Castrol's advertisment where it says "Get maximum protection with Castrol GTX", yet the Castrol Syntec blend talks about protection for many short trips. So why does one need their blend if the conventional is giving you the maximum?

You spend way too much time worrying about oil advertisements. If it's that important to you then contact Castrol and demand an explanation. Don't give up until they tell you everything you want to know. Why do you expect people on a message board to do all the legwork and then spoon feed you the answers?
