The 3.0L V6 in my Mitsubishi Montero has had a diet of Gulf Max 20W-50 motor oil every 5,000 km/3,000 miles, up until it was treated with Auto-Rx and switched to Motorcraft SB 10w30 at 210,000 km/131,500 miles.
Recently, I noticed it loses a liter every 2,250 km/1,400 miles and I reckon the time has come to replace my PCV valve. It's a bit of a pain to replace on this engine, so for the time being I switched to Castrol GTX 20W-50. The tech told me the lifespan of this oil is 5,000 km/3,000 miles. My OCI with Motorcaft SB is 8,000 km/5,000 miles with a maintenance dose of Auto-Rx. Unfortunately, there are no facilities around to obtain a used oil analysis, although the 10w30 still looks pretty decent by the 5,000 mile mark.
In the UK, the regular OCI is 10,000 miles/1 year - whichever comes first. I know people who use this OCI with Castrol GTX, and I was wondering if it would be acceptable to change my oil at 10,000 km/6,250 miles with a maintenance dose of ARX?
Looking at the specifications, the 20W-50 I purchased only meets the API SL/CF specification. But I know the European one meets API SL/CF, ACEA A3/B3, VW 505 00 and MB 229.2. Based on this, would a 6,250 mile OCI be too much for this oil? Thank you.
