Dont here very much about Castrol GTX Dino here but after reading some of their add packs the tri-shield seems very good for addition.I remember doing a oil change dumping out Castrol and how CLEAN it was after 6 months aprox. 5,0000 miles. I used 5w20 by the way. Not too much moly and boron but this Tri-Shield is doing something good i guess.Maybe the Tri-Shield is cleaning better????

It`s what is in my gf`s Mustang. Runs the best it ever has. GTX is going in my Z this afternoon. I`ve used it more than any oil. Ran GTX 20W50 in my Honda CR500.

Used it in my Olds Toronado Trofeo. Sold it with 250,000-300,000 (can`t remember the exact mileage) on it. Ran like brand new! No issues ever.

Been my fave oil as long as I`ve been driving.

GTX has always had a small loyal following.
GTX is usually the most expensive conventional on the shelf in this country, so it may not be a very good value.
As to whether GTX is better than or inferior to any other API SN conventional, who knows?
I've got GTX in the Focus at the moment mainly because the engine is a 5W-20 application and I happened to have the oil laying around.
I don't remember exactly where or when I bought it, but I'm guessing that it must have been on clearance too cheap to pass up.
It was very light in color going in and has darkened to a light tan over the 3K it's been in use. Should be fine for another 2K.

If the used oil is drained and it is clean. There are three possibilities. IMO.

1. Your engine was not dirty to begin with.

2. The oil did very little cleaning.

3. Your assessment of the oil being clean is off.

I think all those old Castrol GTX "fights thermal breakdown" commercials really hit home with many buyers.Back in the 1970s it was touted as the oil for small engines...not for 454s and 440s but VW Beetles,Vega,Chevettes,Pintos, and Datsuns....and many stuck with that theory.Today I see it as an overpriced oil that's living off its (old) propaganda.

I'm sure GTX is as good as any other conventional oil. The people who make it know quite a bit more about making oil than anyone who posts here, with a handful of exceptions.

You are not kidding over priced GTX..here in my neck of the woods canadian tire has theirs for 27.99 and walmart is 22.97...im waiting for PartsSource for their sale like for 16 bucks for Quaker State Pennzoil and of course Castrol GTX..I cant remember when i bought motor oil in canadian tire or walmart but hands down for PartsSource for most of their stuff thats on sale for a month at a time...jee whize no line ups and its only 5 minute drive to boot and super staff

*rolls eyes*

Far superior is an overstated embellishment. I love Pennzoil, but I certainly wouldn't hesitate to run GTX. I seriously doubt there's much real world, appreciable difference between the two.

At the Walmart here Valvoline conventional is the most expensive,GTX,PYB the same, and Quaker State Conventional the cheapest.

Wow, wish I had known back in the day that GTX was only for small engines. Would not have run it in my 65 Corvette or my 69 Charger R/T. If only I had known

Just looking at PQIA stats, NOACK is a huge difference, Pennzoil Conventional is the best 5w20 conventional there. The - 30C viscosity is the best conventional (besides Quaker State Advanced Durability). Highest TBN, huge dose of Moly and Boron. Just a real premium additive pack for a conventional. Usually one has to buy a synthetic to get such generous doses of the precious additives.

So these are all just virgin numbers but important still I think. I had certainly seen some stellar used oil analysis of Pennzoil Conventional SN. The TBN retention on the last one I saw had it above 2 after almost 6k miles which is pretty good for a conventional.

901Memphis yes i just checked too on the Pennzoil and my wifes car has it in hers right now..what ever oil is on sale at PartSource is fine with me because i just think all other store chains are just waaaaay too expensive.I simply just get Castrol Quaker State or pennzoil over there when due. What prices do you have in Northern Kentucky..i guess there are crazy prices everywhere right now both USA and Canada..just a money grab..by the way i went through Northern Kentucky 2 years ago to some car shows..very nice state

Last price check I had Pennzoil conventional was only $15.67 per 5 quart jug and Mobil 1s were all on roll back for $25. That's only $3.13 per quart for Pennzoil conventional or $5 a quart for synthetic. Almost all the synthetics at Walmart hover around $25 +/- couple bucks.

In the crankcase. 2 stroke oil mixed with the gas went in the gas tank. This bike wasn`t oil injected. My Yamaha DT175 was oil injected (had a reservior underneath the plastic "DT175" side plate.

Your Walmart is the exception it seems. A 5 qt jug of GTX here is more than a 5 qt jug of QS Defy here.
