I had trouble posting my oil report, so here's the long version (forgive me for being a newb.):

BLACKSTONE LABORATORIES

EQUIPMENT MAKE: Toyota
EQUIPMENT MODEL: 4.0L V6 (1GR-FE)
FUEL TYPE: SUN94 Gasoline(Unleaded)
OIL USE INTERVAL: 1,320KM
OIL TYPE & GRADE: Castrol GTX 5W/30 SM
OIL FILTER: AMSOIL EAO 34
MAKE-UP OIL ADDED: 0 qts

COMMENTS:
Your 12-km trip to work must be long enough to get the oil heated up since we found no gas contamination in the oil. The viscosity was a litte low for a 5W/30, but not low enough to hurt anything. Some types of engines tend to shear the VI improver in the oil's additive group and your Toyota 4.0L may be one of them. This is the second oil in the engine and it looks it, in the high copper and silicon. These elements routinely read high during wear-in. Look for a sincere improvement in the next sample. You are going to love this engine!

The oil sheared a little bit (as the lab report said). I wan't easy on this oil; I loaded the engine hard, and a little easy- a mix of both, only after the engine was fully warm (@ operating temp).Drove it like I stole it, if I may say.
Any input from the oil gurus is greatly appreciated. What kind of oil should I use that won't shear too much?

I'm not a guru, but I do know Castrol syntec blend is a bit thicker than regular GTX and may help the shearing problem. Having said that, the shearing certainly didnt seem to hurt anything.

with 15000 miles i have run GC ta pp and castrol syntec i feel the pp gives best mpg and fells best the motor is a slug with GC will do a uoa down the road. the big deal is the fuel dilute lot of motors have the problem. mine showed in the first uoa done at 7500

I wouldn't worry too much about the shearing at this point in the vehicles life, it appears to be somewhat common for "tight" new engines to shear oil versus ones that have more miles on them.

BTW, nice job formating your UOA for easy reading!

Yep, another issue-free Toyota engine UOA. Ditto on the good formatting, and posting the data directly (instead of linking).

I did enjoy how the Blackstone analyst phrased the evaluation, as in
Quote:

Look for a sincere improvement in the next sample.

Oh yes, those Toyota engines really try hard to please their masters! Their efforts to improve are heart-felt, honest, and sincere. No lack of candor from these engines. . .

Is this a 1Gr Fe or a puppy?

Run that sucker out to 5k mile intervals don't worry about the shearing. The engine has a real long timing chain with the oil squirting directly on it from a jet, the chain is like a set of scissors constantly cutting up the VII's, This engine doesn't mind thin oil and IMO likes it when it gets sheared down. GC is going to be a drag. This engine will take good care of itself as long as you follow the factory recomended intervals and use ILSAC approved oil(GC is not ILSAC GF4 approved ). The oil losing visocsity is also by the oils design, in order to Pass the GF-4 Sequences the oil has to shear some. While protecting the engine and resisting degradation.

It's a nice engine, I have two of them, one with nearly 10k on it and another with about 5800 on it, but no UOA's on these yet. Been running nothing but Tropartic 5w30 and Wix filters (with LC). at 5k mile intervals.
