First time running this oil after switching from mobil, 10w-30 Clean 5,000. Ran this oil for 3,964 miles. Current Mileage on the car is 55,331. Not sure how to post the UOA so i took a screen shot.. Hope this is fine, anyway please give me some feedback! Thanks, also this is my first UOA and i couldn't get enough oil as stated so they were not able to do the flash point test... I wasn't sure how much oil to take, so hopefully next time i'll take more.

Looks just fine.

The shearing that took place could just be due to short trips and/or stop-go operation. The fuel might not burn off completely in these conditions.

Other than that, it's a great engine.

Or just that it's a modified turbo that's driven hard.

Turbo subies run rich (especially when modified) so make sure you fill the bottle completely next time to get a fuel/flash number.

You didn't actually add 4 quarts of oil during this interval did you?

Nice report. Short oci's on quality dino appear to do fine in these turbo boxers.

How much makeup oil was added during the interval?

For 2003 its still the EJ20, 2.0L

I think it's a pretty good run all things considered. I don't fault Subaru for wanting 3750 ocis under severe service.

Is the turbo oil cooled on those vehicles? Do you run the car hard? If it is a turbocharged engine that gets any spirited driving, I'd probably run a synthetic. Right now, though, as it stands, GTX 10W-30 showed to have at least average results, with very low copper wear compared to the other averages.

Well i purchased this car used; I've taken the car to the desert (El Mirage Dry Lake Bed) once. Previous owner auto crossed with the car. It's a 2.0 Liter engine, I guess blackstone has it mixed up or i put it wrong? Anyway I did actually fill 4 quarts during this interval to answer the question. Thanks for all the feedback! I was told not to run fully synthetic as the turbo would suck out the oil too fast? Hence the synthetic oils are think and slippery? From what i heard from the previous owner that told me to run non synthetic.

Red flag...Red flag...that's a lot of oil

Totally bogus advice. Synthetic oil is not too 'slippery' compared with conventional oil. If you want to stick with conventional oil I'd probably go with a slightly shorter OCI (maybe 3,000 - 3,500 miles). Running a synthetic I'd shoot for an interval between 5,000 - 6,000.

Anyone want to speculate what adding 4 qts will do to the uoa on a 4k mile OCI? Wouldn't wear be much higher? The viscosity is definitely reading much better than it would be otherwise.

goOse - Have a look around here and nasioc and there are quite a few synthetic turbo subie uoa's without much consumption. Maybe Auto-RX would be a good idea as well.

I see, I may plan on switching to synthetic from what you guys say...Any other options on synthetic oils?

Also, 4 qts. is too much oil? I need someone to comprehend. To be clear, i add 4qts. of oil when I change my oil completely. If there's a difference between make up oil and changing oil? What'
s make up oil?

Make up oil is the amount of you you have had to add to the sump to replace oil that was consumed or leaked. It does not include the oil you installed when you did the oil change.

Rotella 5W-40 synthetic would be a good choice. A gallon of it is $19, and may be coming down. Use a Purolator Pure One oil filter and you'll have a pretty inexpensive, long lasting oil change. You should be able to get at least 5,500 miles out of it.

I see in that case i am not adding 4 quarts of make up oil. How much make up oil is usually added? Thanks for the heads up; I may try Rotella 5w-40... and probably do a UOA on that in the near future.

Some engines just don't burn any oil at all, and some burn it nearly as fast as fuel.

My moms 2002 H6 Outback in its 93,000 miles has consumed maybe a combined total of 1 quart. The level on the dip stick just does not change.

Most say that 1 quart in 3,000 miles is acceptable.

By BMW standards at least. :)
